So I was cutting some wood on the table saw when it kicked back & pulled my hand through it. Lost 1 finger, 3 other were pretty mangled. They took me to mercy in cr by ambulance. i guess that is where the nearest hand specialist is. Spent 2 hours in surgery. Then they were worried about my breathing as they gave me 30 things of morphine. Me like morphine alot! I couldnt believe how wonderful the dr's &nurses were at both Cov & mercy!

Any way now i am a 1 handed typer, good thing the house is about done.

please be very careful with any type of power tool, electricity, or anything else for that matter!

Craig, *** man?! That is just crazy!! My friend jeff cut his thumb off on a table saw at work, they were able to re attach it and he now has full use of his thumb. Man that just sucks, i don't even know what to say, but will you still fix my jeep?

Get better man, you still have the other hand.

LOL

Ya i am going back to work tomorrow. Just let me know when u can drop it off for awhile.

They wanted to put it back on but there is only 2 teams within 150 miles that could do it & they werent available.

Wow, great attitude dude.

I can't believe University of Iowa Hospitals don't have the expertise for that.

the index is gone. pinkie & ring pretty tore up. middle & thunb a few stitches is all.

U of I team was out of town. Mayo team was in the middle of a 8hour reattatchment allready.

Can't imagine. I type all day.

That is suprising that the university didn't have any more teams that could handle it.

Your attitude is definitely good after something like this.

wow man that be-lows...
I knew a guy here in ames who what the same stuff happen, the reattached his index, and middle tip and ring tip. Only to have to take the index back off because it was acting all funny and not healing right.

Another word of advice is if you will be using power tools make sure that you are within shouting distance of somebody who can dial a phone or drive a car!

Prayers for a speedy recovery

Prayers for a speedy recovery

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident.

You are very right, an accident can happen real fast when working with power tools. To all reading this thread, please operate all power tools with great care.

You are in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

I thought you were kidding at first judging from the tone in your first post. Like the others are saying, great attitude.. keep your chin up.

Get better soon.

Wow, that is awful, I am sorry you had to go through that. I hope you get better soon.

I just bought my first table saw, have used it twice. I thought about taking the blade guard off. Now maybe I'll just get rid of the whole thing. Even if I don't, the blade guard stays on and I am going to be very careful. Thanks for sharing, you can be sure it has done me some good.

daaaaaaaaaaaamn sorry to hear about that......what made you try and "self frag" ;)

By the way your attitude is freaking amazing or you are still using high dose morphine!!!

Yeah dude. Seriously...humans don't reproduce through fragging. You see what you have to do is find yourself a girl mate...

Just kidding. Seriously great attitude man. When I smashed my hand and was told by the Dr. that I would only have about 25% use of it the rest of my life, I was a bit down about it but then I though, Self, let's make this guy eat his words. Now I am at about 85-90% use and people have no idea unless I point it out to them.
You will bounce back from this big time. Attitude is the BIGGEST thing when something like this occurs and yours seems to be good.
Speedy recovery man.

Thanks for the kindness. I feel pretty good today. looking forward to getting healed up so I can get back to doing normal things. I was hoping to start the ole tank up next month. I asked the Dr if I would be able to play the violin still. He looked at me with concern & asked how much i played. I told him i didnt, but i was thinking about trying.
