Spiny Brittle Star - LEG

We found a severed leg from one of our spiny Brittle stars today.
It appears to be "alive". It is a good 3" long.

After 8 hours, it still moves, it still wiggles, it still crawls.

Will it die? Will it grow into a full Brittle Star?

What should we do with it?

Wait and see. Sometimes it will grow into another one.

A leg fragment of a brittle/serpent star will never survive on its own or regenerate. It will last for a week or so until it runs out of energy.

A general rule for brittle and serpent stars is that any fragment with less than 3 legs is not viable.

Yea same thing happened to me when i took some live rock out to do a huge water change and glass cleaning. i found a little brittle star and threw him back in the tank but in one of those breeder separator things to make sure he makes it and so i can keep an eye on him... and his legs started falling off. im like *** dude? get yourself 2gether. and then like 5 days later he had 2 legs left and was still moving... and then he died. im ****ed. cuz he was a hitchhiker and i like hitchhikers and now i want to buy a brittle star. cuz the other one died and idk. haha its just upsetting damn it
