Splendid Leopard Wrasse

I was at the Critter today when they were dropping the fish into the tanks. I saw the leopard wrasse (Macropharyngodon bipartitus) drop out and was immediately buried in the sand. I had to have him;). I didn't get a good enough look at it to see if it has the lateral lines that may determine sex (females lack the lines, as I understand it). It went directly back under the sand after I got to see it for a few seconds. They are holding it for me, but I can't wait to pick it up. I'm pretty sure I don't have to worry about this one eating my corals;). Been wanting a wrasse (aside from the cleaner) for a while, and this one was screaming my name. They also had a yellow tailed Tamarin/wrasse that was beautiful, too.

Extremely tough wrasse to keep bro. Feed almost exclusively on foraminiferans (forget about it) and amphipods. I hope she does well. When can i see her??? Got a new alvarez for ya to check out. Fresh blueberries too.

:). I will likely have them hold it through the weekend and pick it up Monday or Tuesday. It's killing me. I've got a pod factory, though, so I hope I can keep it as fat as my other fishes. I rarely feed them and they stay nice and plump. I can't wait...

Good idea on holding them. I've tried two Macropharyngodon spps, but mine could never ship well. I've given up on such awesome fish until they figure out how to ship them better. I think the problem can be helped if they threw in some sand in the shipping bags. Good luck on yours Gary. I would love to see him when ever hes settled.

Good. I've been resisting the urge to go and visit it... I know if I see it, I'll want to bring it home. Jenn is being my will power and making me leave it until Tuesday.

Here she is:).

They said they got her to eat mysis, so all the better:).

Looks beautiful. Gary the yellow green & white zoas finally opened up this weekend. Do you still have any of the green speckled zoas left?

Wow, that's beautiful--looks great! Is it Tuesday already!? ;) It was nice of them to hold it for you though.

I've never actually been to the Aquatic Critter; I need to make a trip out there sometime :)

Very nice, Gary! I too recently acquired a new wrasse, but he's being shy at the moment. I hope she does well for you.

I was shocked to hear that they had her eating mysis when I called today. I couldn't wait any longer... I dropped her in the tank and she looked around for about 20 seconds as if what the..., then bored a hole into the sand. She should do fine:). I didn't QT her (don't have a QT setup with sand in it... I know, bad excuse), but the friendly neighborhood cleaner wrasse, while a little overzealous, should pick her clean if anything came in with her. Nothing on inspection, for whatever that is worth. Jenn got to see her before drilling into the sand, so she's pretty excited, too. I gave her a Yasha Hase and shrimp for Valentines Day last year and it took three weeks for them to make a hole where we could see them.

I hated to hear about your Christmas wrasse, Chris. I was thinking of getting one of them for a while, just couldn't make up my mind as to which wrasse I wanted to go with. Everyone that I know who has one says they are very well behaved, even with shrimps (and have been praised as eaters of AEFW's). Do you know how long it had been there before you got it?

Gary, nice looking creature. I am very jealous.

that little Flasher I got is donig Great. hid a bit, in the hole the bicolor blenny had, and is now eating flake food with as much vigor as my other fish...

I haven't seen her since I dropped her in, but I'm sure she'll come out and play when she's ready. She was out and about at the Critter, so she got used to that environment pretty quickly.

Thanks for the compliments. When I saw her, I knew I had to have her:).

Here is mine. Beautiful fish...very peaceful. I have a Bipartitus, Meleagris, and Geoffroyi...all females. They are the coolest fish.

Nice fish rendos and Gary! I can't wait to start getting fish now that I will have room. Thats a nice coral in the left corner of your tank also Rendos, a blasto?

I like the leopard look:). I was thinking of a buddy for her sometime over the next year, but it looks like your little group of she fishes get along pretty well, too. I just can't wait for her to come out and play...
