Splitting BTA taking forever

How long should it take for a healthy BTA to split? It has been 2 weeks or maybe a little more since it started this process. Do I need to help it finish? Are there any problems associated with long splitting times?

The 2 pieces still inflate. It is hard to tell if there are mouths forming for each. This particular GBTA has been in my 58 for 3 years and has never split. It was app.8-9 inches across. Should it be fed while it is this state? There are 2 Ocellaris hosting it for the last 1 1/2 years and they lay every 2 weeks right underneath the anenome.

Any help is appreciated as this is the only anenome I have ever had.

I would just let it finish on its own. The longest I've had for a BTA to split was just over a week. I don't know of any problems with a long split. You asked about feeding it, they split through the mouth, so I don't see how one could eat until the split is complete.

When you say it's taken about 2 weeks to split, do you mean they are still attached, or that you are waiting for the mouth to form and for them to heal.

I myself don't have a lot of experience (only had my RBTA since August), but I will say when my RBTA split earlier this month that two pieces stayed right next to each other for a week or two, so I wasn't sure if it was completely spit till the larger one moved off.

I suspect they all split differently though depending on the animal and tank conditions - for example, mine had two mouths when I got it in back in August, but it took 3 months to finally decide to split.

If you can, post some pics of it and likely one of the more experienced people here can give you some better info.

Cheers,
K

A BTA with a normal split usually takes a week or so and maybe another week for the halves to return to normal. Can't say that 2 weeks is too long for any reason and, if both halves seem to be doing okay, I wouldn't fool with them.
