i have my ocean runner 2500 return pump throttled way down with a ball valve. i want to send some of the flow to my fuge area i remember seeing this being done before. i bought all the fittings to do it but need to know if this is the right way. paint pic below :D

is this the right layout?

i disagree... its always nice to be able to fine tune flow to different things... i kick myself all the time for not putting a ball valve on my return line...

to the OP... that will work great just as drawn :)

I agree with 91yota. I did this and did not put a ball valve in the tank return line and I regret it.

You guys are right. I missed the part where the OP had the flow throttled way back. Two valves will allow control in both directions.

yea i need the ball valve for the return to the tank also since this pump puts out way more flow than i need. rightnow i have a ball valve on it and its throttled way down. the main reason i want to send some flow in the fuge section is because i dont like having the pump throttled way down im not sure if its a good thing to do to the pump. i also need some more flow thru the fuge section since the flow thru my sump is slow.

thanks to all that helped

I still recommend having a 3rd tee, elbow and ball valve on the return that dumps right back into the pump area. The photo does not show 3 ball valves it only show two. Not sure if Marc has 3 in his design. I would recomend it though. Also I am not sure if you are using a Union this will make it easier to clean the pump or do maintenace in the future.

Why would you want the third T fitting to make water flow back into the sump? That will just raise the energy consumption of the pump as opposed to leaving it throttled back.
