Splitting up a pair

I have a bonded pair of jigsaw picassos (in my avatar female top left - male bottom rt). They've been together for about a year and a half but have never spawned. The male is beautiful with awesome markings, the female is nice but nothing that makes you drool lol. So my question is this...if I was to take the male out and put him in his own tank would he turn into a female or at his age is he going to stay male? If he still could change I'd love to eventually pair him up with a snowcasso.

Thanks for any advice.

Were they adults when they were placed together? If they were Young/immature I don't think a year and a half is all that long to go without spawning. My perc's didn't start spawning until they were over 2 years old.

To answer your question, yes. The male will turn female if left on his own long enough, or if he is kept with a more submissive fish.
Personally I think both of your fish are beautiful. They make a great pair.

They were immature when paired. Maybe I'll give them some more time if yours took that long. They were about 6 months when I got them and I've had them for just over a year.

Thanks for helping.
