Sponge on pumps?

Who runs their pump with the sponge on it?

I run a sponge on my skimmer but not one the return no wait there's one in the return pump so I guess I do run sponges on the pump lol

Like any other filter media if you don't clean the pump sponge every 3-4 days it will start to increase the nitrates in your tank. Too much work for most of us who go without it.

If you have a anemone I would run one but if you don't I don't use them.

Why do you say that? I do have a RBTA

I have four rbtas and they are very healthy. I only put sponge in one baffle of my sump to prevent snails getting in to pumps. Otherwise I run all pumps sponge free.
