Spray paint for tank lid

Hey

I've got a Fluval Edge 42l tank and wanted to spray paint the grill on the lid as I'm aware from reviews that it is prone to rusting in the long term.

I know in the USA everyone seems to use Krylon Fusion but its not readily available in the UK.

Would it be okay to use spray paint that isn't aquarium safe as it isn't going to be submerged? Worst case scenario I think some condensation will form on the lid and drip back into the tank.

I'm not sure how close the screening is on this but if it's tight/small squares it may be hard to spray w/out it globbing up and closing up.
Maybe you can pull the screen and insert pond netting instead?
Most of us use the pond netting like what BRS carries
