Spring frag swap! 05/18/13 @ the odeum

Back to same thing , were going in a loop here. When you bad mouth a politician , do you do it at a meeting ? Or with friends , coworkers? My point exactly. Same is being done here. As far as contributing to cmas, I paid for my membership I expect something in return, or do pay your Bally fitness membership and expect nothing in return? Even more so what if they told you that for a whole years membership a certain perk would be included and half way thru the year they took it away ? Would you just sit there and do nothing about it? Maybe you can donate some time to ballys and help them out?!? And cmas obviously heard the screams here from the "herds" so they weren't just crys out into the air .

I agree with John. I too have been following the thread for a few days. When ever i hear people say its the "Principle of the Matter" in any situation it usually means they are complaining about something that is not worth complaining about so they blame it on principle. Grow up. Most of you are adults I assume. Start acting like it and quit complaining over five bucks or principle or what ever you call it.

Furthermore you are acting like children in the way you argue, and in the way you bring an issue to the club. My wife has a daycare business, and she has kids that argue the exact same way. If you dont do "fill in the Blank" then im going to leave. In the complainers case here the fill in the blank is give me my free admission. When some of you grow up you will realize you can argue your points without threats. Next time try sending an email to the club president detailing your complaints and ask for some kind of resolve. Give the club a chance to answer your complaints. Now comes the really hard part for those of you who just have to *****. When they respond to your complaints if you don't like the answer you make the decision to stay or leave. You still dont need to threaten them with leaving. Doesn't do anything but make you look childish.

For those of you wanting to learn more on how to tactfully attack an issue i will be holding a seminar at the next frag swap. Entry will be 5 dollars at the door. Please pay the money to the frag swap cashier and i will collect my share at the end of the event

why are these noobies stirring up the koolaid whithout knowing what the favor is. you guys need to look at our post count and realize we have been supporting cmas for years our opinion counts and needs to be respected.

The new president wanted a transparent discussion of the issues, this is it. This is the club, we're bring the complaints to it.

Not many people were making threats, just blatantly saying they won't renew, big difference. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see a post saying remove this or I won't renew. Correct me if I'm wrong.

From a solution standpoint, I dare say the president understands our concerns, and should hold an emergency type meeting on the $5 for members.

Once a final decision is made, if it hasn't been already, this thread should be renamed or deleted, to make way for a more official locked thread. This has become just a complaint hotline, any information regarding the meet is useless here at this point.

I may not have a huge post count but I can tell you that I have been on other sites for a long time.

I remember going to the last couple frag swaps and i became a member to support the club..

I work for a lfs, and have tried to get involved with the club and help out and would have ran for a position possibly if I did get involved but I could not get a hold of a single person. I emailed people, posted on the cmas site, RC, and CR's... I recieved 1 email back and it was pretty much just an open statement giving an introduction of this person because he was a new officer.. then when i told the person that I would help with the swaps and also help with some positions, I never recieved another email. you cant help if nobody wants you to.......

If the club wanted a bigger venue then they could have prospected and called around for the best price on big venues and also asked others for suggestions, there are some nice big venues in the South Suburbs and they would probably even give a discount for a NFPO. I would think that bigger venues would be cheaper in the south suburbs than it would be in the north suburbs.

But i also remember that when I walked in and saw 2 people that bought $400 in raffle tickets and then i thought to myself hmmm i guess im not buying any raffle tickets, I was even more suprised to see the same person that bought all the raffle tickets won everything and put PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING HE WON ON A FOR SALE THREAD on 4 different sites. If you really wanted to win something because you wanted it i see no problem but someone getting in a raffle to just make money off it was a little ridiculous.

I have a suggestion that i have no clue if it helps. I would email but i dont know who to send it to. I have not gone to any frag swaps in chicago. I just recently moved back here so i dont know how the raffles are run. I have taken part in a few charities that did it this way and i really enjoyed it. Here goes

Setup baskets or buckets whatever really. Each basket has a value. BE it $1 or $30.00. In each basket is an item. Not sure what is given away. Could look like this maybe 1 package of rods food is in a dollar basket, small pump in 5.00 basket, fish pellets 1.00 basket, big ticket item in a 20.00 basket, and so on. Not sure how much or what is raffled but you get the point. People can buy raffle tickets for each cost of basket. What i mean here is that if you have a 1.00, 5.00 and 10.00 baskets you also need to sell a 1.00, 5.00 and 10.00 dollar raffle ticket. As the ticket holder you choose where you would like to put whatever tickets you buy. That way if a guy buys 400.00 dollars worth he really has to choose what basket he wants to overload. He cannot cover all of them.

I hope this makes sense. I am on Morphine, and 3 other equally strong pain killers for a failed ankle fusion so sometime my train of thought is hard to follow. If a board member has further questions about this PM me.

Sounds complicated, but I'm not a fan of raffles to put it lightly.

Its not complicated. I might not be explaining perfectly through text. Its also alot of fun. If someone wants to contact me ill explain further. The club can make alot of money and multiple people will win prizes not just one. To make it easier maybe just do a 1.00 and 5.00 dollar baskets.

I think you're misunderstanding the problem behind the raffle tickets. Nobody is there the entire time, people want to arrive early for the good stuff. Those same people aren't staying there for 5 hours waiting for their numbers to be called out. Then checking each of your little tickets if they are called out? Could you be any more inefficient?

I know I'm not providing any solutions, but this is just a terrible idea all around.

I think it's pretty simple to do the $1, $5 and $10 type raffles, to put some weight around the big ticket items, but keeping it more fair.

sure a guy could spend $100 and put 100 tickets in for a nano, but if you make it $10 a shot, then he's only putting in 10 tickets, chances of winning are probably less.

the problem with allowing the "people need not be present to win", is then the CMAS volunteers need to pack it up and hold it for some indefinate amount of time and deal with that process. that could be a ton of stuff. I wouldn't want to put that on them. I like the must be present to attend, if you dont want to stay the whole time, dont buy tickets I guess.

only option for the "fairness" to win, is limit the max amount of tickets, but then again, this then limits the amount of money that can be taken for operating the club, so that doesn't work.

My only comment on the whole $5 entry change, stuff happens, I get the principle thing, but it's REALLY not worth getting worked up about, you either support the club or you dont. To say "I'm not gonna attend" or "I'm no longer gonna support" is silly, there are more benefits to the club than entry to the frag swaps. I dont even use these benefits, but know others that do, I'm just not gonna get worked up over it.

Hey, look at my post count!!! :D

In the charities i have been a part of the raffle ticket you fill out name, email and phone number. You are contacted if you win and have an hour to pick up. That way you do not have to stay. If you do not pick up they simply draw another ticket. If you know you cannot return to pick up if you win then do not buy tickets

There is no checking a ton of tickets because you put all your tickets in baskets. You do not hold on to the other half to check numbers.

The tickets you put in have your name on them?

Also the pickup part could be avoided by doing gift certificates instead of 200 gallon tanks.

I think with the raffle you should have to be there to win. I know i stayed the entire swap last time just for the raffle. If people are stuck waiting for the raffle they will likely spend more money. Gave me a reason to walk around all the vendors over and over again looking for things i "didn't" need

I am halfway page three and my lunch is almost over. Before I throw my thoughts out, allow me to acknowledge that several of you may have no idea who I am, havent been posting in a long long time. For those that know me...whatz up!!
To my point, and I do know something about this
Creating a club or revamping it A LOT OF WORK
Planning and exicuting an event A LOT OF WORK
Answering the inquiries about who said she said A LOT OF WORK.
If $5 is too much to spend, you are in the wrong hobby, if you are upset that the "rules changed" you are in the wrong life. These guys should be thanked for the service they are providing you, and yes its a service, that is updaid. At church we take a free will offering for the elders, a thank you gift for all they do in thier unpaid volunteer role. Where is that for these guys? Alright that wont happen cuz $5 to get into an event is too much, or something, but where is the thank you for the job they are doing. I dont know what happened to the past leaders but in here I read they want nothing to do with the club, wonder why?
Dont come to the swap, dont renew your membership, whatever.
Want a voice, want to be part of the change and the process, join up and serve

And when I saw the thread title I was hoping to see who the sellers were and what cool stuff they have to offer, nothing cool about this thread
