i was just wondering ,what kind of acros i could keep under 2 175 10,000k light ,also i have 3 vho actinic.,thank you for ur input.

all of them.

depending on bulb, you may sacrifice some color and growth. While I have never actually used it myself, I know the iwasaki 175 w puts out a comparable amount of par as most 250's anyway

I use 175w Iwasakis with icecap electronic ballasts and had a guy over with his par meter. Can't remember the exact numbers, but I was at 400-500 at around a third down in my 24" tank. I grow all sorts of acros and sps at various levels. Haven't had trouble with anything yet. Decent colors (although my buddy has 400w 10ks and has incredible colors). My lps are down at the bottom and do very well Two brains and a big frogspawn.

One more thing. I switched reflectors from garbage to lumenbright minis and it was like I really kicked up the watts.

^ no way my 250w right under the water is 220 and 2,500 under the light. Or you have a good reflector. A 175 is fine for sps keep them mid to high in the tank.

i loved my iswaki 175 15k great color and growth , had them on a 75 sps dominated tank with 5 clams on the sand bed

thanks everyone for ur input.right now i have alittle algae issue and once i get that under control, il be grabbing some easier ones to start.actually i have a monti cap thats pretty hugh right now and its coming together nicely.i had an issue because i added some gravel and i guess the dust from it set it back a bit,but its looking great and colouring up again.happy reefing.

I had 175w AB 13k on pulse start magnetic ballast and they grew any SPS like weeds. Way faster than all the 150w bulbs I've used (reeflux 10k, phoenix 14k, aquamaxx 14k, ushio 20k ect).

i have the 14k phoenix in my 40B i can keep acro on the sand bed. i have a lumenarc 3 reflector and 2 vho's i have some that are one inch under the water line and some on the bottom. the ones on bottom do just as good. acro bali slimer, birdnest, hydno on top, staghorn & mili on bottom all are averging about 1/8" growth every week or so

Two 175 watt 10K bulbs and 3 VHO actinics doesn't sound like much over a 105 gallon tank IMO. It's not that you can't keep acros, it just that some of the more light demanding ones might struggle. Prime realestate up top.

Most birdsnest corals should thrive under 175 watt halides. The more difficult to keep SPS generally require 250 watt halides or more. I run 400 watt halides on my SPS reef, but like you, I started off with two 175 watt halides. Good luck!
