sps battles?

I have been slowly acquiring sps frags to grow out on a frag rack in my current 60g tank while I build my 125g. The other day my pink mille branch touched a bird of paradise and the mille won. A whole branch of BOP is wiped out. I've seen a lot of beautiful mature tanks with large colonies of sps which seem to be touching each other and growing like crazy. Are the corals stinging each other? Can 2 different species of mille or acro touch and be ok? I am wondering how close to place my frags when I glue them in the new tank.

Most sps can not touch each other. Different color monti caps can. It is usually a battle between turf with acros, typically there will be damage to each acro where they touch. Often one will try to encrust the other. Your best bet is to give space to each.

I have large colonies but once they touch each other there is some die off. Then there is regrowth and they grow away from each other. Others will grow and then actually sit on a branch of a different coral and then grow up. Ill snap some pictures then for visual reference. Although most of the time when they get close to each other I usually frag them.

I put three different birdsnest together and they touch with no damage, they actually grow together. Don't know of any acros that do that though.
