Sps bleaching and slow growth, i give

You may want to try biopellets or vodka dosing to get the nutrients under control. +1 to reducing photo period.

Wow, like the others said...you photo period is really long. I dont even think the ocean's tropical reefs are lighted that long. I agree with posts above to cut back several hours...it sounds like your corals are photoinhibited with the extened lighting period and releasing their zooxanthellae; thus the pale/bleaching of corals.

How long has this tank been set up? Did you buy all those corals in there like that or have you been growing them and have things taken a turn for the worse? Take a look at your magnesium also. I know someone that runs the same lighting as you and the photoperiod is 12 hours. It's one of the nicest sps tanks you'll ever see.

I have put a lot of trust in api alk test kit, you should reduce you alk to 7.5 to 8. When you test on the 7th drop it should turn slightly yellow and on the 8th totally yellow. I also think oyster feast makes cyano grow.

Kalk can also burn the tips of acros.

Switch to Salifert or Elos alk kits for better accuracy, way better then the "is it 7 or 8 drops" API kit IMO.

Yes but they are not so inaccurate that they aren't useful. If you do it right your alk is not going to be 8 and the test say it's 14, unless it's a bad test kit. Any test kit can be off if it's contaminated. I use API with no problems. I have compared them to more expensive kits.

well i tested it at the lfs and it was 8.5 and calcium was 500. I dont know how the calcium is that high. I have been doing alot of water changes trying to get rid of the slime. I have very little growth. I am getting a calcium reactor soon. I didnt have any issues like this in my old tank pictured above and all i used was a reactor and did very little water changes. I didnt add anything exept what came in from the reactor and it was growing out of control. I grew all the corals in the above tank from tiny frags over a 2 yr period and killed it all with a stuck float switch in one day. I sold it and now im doing a jenky 220 gal tank that im not spending a bunch on because im still gun shy on buying stuff for it. Circulation is not a ton but i have a tunze wavebox and it seems to work well in every inch of the tank with a couple korillas. thanx for the replies. I have lowered the photo period so we will see

do a decent size water change, say 15-20% and then in a week, do the same. get some good test kits like elos. cut back on the food, and cut back your lighting to 10-12 at least.

mystery my dad lives in flowery branch dr, he lives on newberry point. I know you will know where he lives thats a real small town..lol right now im waiting on this red slime to go away. i dosed erythromycin 2 days ago and its almost gone so i will do a big water change next week.

If your sps are paling and slow growth and you said you dont feed a lot. I say try feeding more. I had light sps and poor color a few more fish and heavier feeding help a lot. Wat salt mix are you using? Some have a higher Ca.

im using seachem salt. I dont have any coralline algae at all in the tank. I have it growing a ton in the sump where i have a small 40w actinic light. I am starting to think the tank is too shallow for the lighting. Its only like 18 in tall and i have 3 250 watt lights on it. I think its blasting the coralline so it wont grow. I also have picked up alot of frags that have great polyp extension in tanks with crappy lighting like my lfs. I am thinking of just using some junk t5s or vho. I never had good coralline growth in my old tank either but it had 2 250w halides and 4 400 watters. I did have good growth in that tank but never much polyp extension. thanx for the replies
