SPS corals from the Hawaiian Islands

Does anyone know if there are SPS corals such as Pocillopora meandrina / eydouxi, pavona duerdeni, acropora cytheria (found in nwestern Hawaiian Islands), porites compressa/lobata/ rus that are available to aquarists? I just got back from Hawaii and saw soo many amazing corals and would like to try species that are all of the following: legally imported, aquacultured, and do well in captivity. I have a damicornis (also found in Hawaii)that is doing well, but that may be found in other areas. I think the Pocillopora meandrina / eydouxi are unique to hawaii....Thanks for any help!!!

sorry for the latin names, but i beleive these are the species that are native to hawaii, but i may be incorrect. I also have learned that latin names are the best way for proper identification....

I believe that all Hawaiian species are protected. No collection allowed.

Yea your not even allowed to own a reef tank if you live in Hawaii, anything coming out of Hawaii is illegal.

Not true!
Unfortunately for us multiple endemic species from hawai are protected. They are def illegal-as far as some others they are found elsewhere and thats ok-bali-vanatu etc.

Importing corals to Hawaii from alot of places such as Florida and species like Gorgonians are not allowed in Hawaii. And the same goes for exporting alot of their stuff as stated above. You can have a reef tank but just need to be careful of what you have in it. You don't see too many Caribbean tanks in Hawaii!!

A while back talking with a couple that was into "reefing" they told me that you can only have species in your tank that are local, this to protect from any "invasive" species of fish/invert etc. With that being said, I would guess that you can only have hawaiian species of corals as well, and as such collection of corals is illegal (unsure if it's just hard reef building "true" corals, or if it also applies to soft ones), you can't have a "reef" tank.

I am pretty sure having live rock in your tank is illegal whether or not
it is taken from Hawaii or if it comes from some place else

Maybe someone in Hawaii will speak up, but a buddy of mine just got stationed there and couldn't take his tank. If I remember right, you can't have any corals, and can't collect any live rock. You are allowed to have dead base rock and seed it with live sand from the beach, but that's about it. There are a lot of fish only tanks over there though.

Same buddy said people still have reef tanks out there they are just on the down low. When asked if was going to set up a reef tank he said why bother when you can drive 3x a week. nuff said.

I was under the same impression but wasnt sure if there were corals collected years before this went into affect are are out and about, being propogated.
