Ive been looking for opinions on my cube tank. The tank is pretty full and been growing and the more it grows the more I think I have too much rock and stuff going on. Maybe its just that I have big tank envy:lolspin: but I do not have room currently for a tank larger than my 2ft tank. Should I search for new rock and rescape my tank with a more minimalist look or just let it grow in further?

Depends on the look you're looking for! But IMO it looks nice!
My tank is currently filled with lr but now I like more minimalistic approach, guess your taste changes.

I really like it Steve, it is a tough space and will be even more of a challenge as the corals grow, but I have no doubt you will make it work. The corals look fabulous!

Beautiful cube. Looks pretty good IMO. Most would love to have a tank like that. If I can make any suggestions, here are a few things that you might want to consider. I have always thought that frag racks always look out of place. We spend a lot of money on our aquariums to have a natural reef but frag racks always stands out like a green hat with an orange bill. You can always find temporary places on the rocks for frags.

If you are looking to remove a rock, I would start with the rock that the Neon Green Candy Canes are on. This would almost give you a cliff look. Take this for what it is worth and it is hard to make suggestions w/o seeing the tank in person.

Do you ever worry about palys and zoanthids growing over the acros?

I agree on the frag racks but I had a few frags I made up for my dad and I was holding some new frags on there. Its coming out.

@acroholicreefer
I added that rock about 8 mth ago thinking I could grow a few acros down there but truthfully the colors are weak and the more and more I look at it the more I think its overwhelming. Taking it out might be a good idea...or getting a smaller rock and placing a nice chalice on it.

As for the palys/zoas---I F'in hate my peachy palys! I wish I could find a pest to eat all my palys. They grow everywhere almost as bad as xenia. The good...they help with eating waste and keeping water clean. The bad...they grow everywhere and take over. For the most part I can manage the palys around my Stonies but they have been known to smother certain corals. Biggest mistake Ive made in a long time is adding those palys in 2011...dumb dumb dumb.

I'm in the same boat with my 2x2x2 cube. I'm loving how it's filling in, but it also means I'm stuck....I can't add anything else, and that always gets a little boring.

Granted, I lose A LOT of space to my massive killer elegance, but I can't bring myself to part with it....I've had it seven years. I'm starting to make use of the glass in my tank to squeeze a little more in. I just glued a pink/green pocillopora to my overflow, and frag-mags have become my new best friend, they don't stand out as much as racks and they're easy to move around.

If anything, it looks like you may be able to go "up" another level? I brought my rock up pretty close to the top of the tank. So close that one of my birdsnests is out of the water.

Not to hijak, but here is my 60 cube.

I think I'm going to move the MP10 on the back wall to the other side, and put in a few montipora colonies to let them fill that area in a bit. There's nothing down below so it's not a big deal if they shade that corner.

I'll trade you my elegance for your clam :-P

LOL Im in the same boat with my deresa...cant part with it, just too special at that size. your tank looks great too-the elegance is a beaut.

orginally, the top rock was pointing upwards for the stonies to grow up into that space that is empty but that rock settle and now its secure where it is...and if I went higher in the tank I would have to break down the existing rocks to restructure the build. I thought about epoxying a piece of tonga rock to the top...easier said than done. How about I just buy a new tank :-)...all I need then is a new house to display the tank:lmao:.

What do you guys think about leaving the right side with the clam/slimer/blue ridge and redoing the left side; take out the small rock down low with the green candy cane...take the big rock on top out (tear off the palys--detach sps and hold in a small QT until ready)...junk the big base rock and replace it with a new piece of rock and build the left side over again with a new rock structure that reaches higher in the tank(with more ledge). reattach about 15 small - med frags back to new rock.

AM I CRAZY? am I making too much out of this?

Steve I would love to help with the coral scape, but I am woefully inadequate with that, my own tank is proof of that. :D

You know what would help? More pictures ;-)

I like height. If you dismantled the left side, could you get a shelf rock in down low joining the right side? Then continue up the left until you get closer to the top? Then you'd have an extra platform in additon to the space up the left.

I wish I had added an extra rock on the left side of my tank to get the height even to that on the right. I can't do it now, I'd have to destroy my green stylo and tricolor and both are completely encrusted.

At least your clam doesn't sting other corals LOL! I've lost so much to this elegance it's embarassing.

I hear you too about the bigger tank/new house. I really want to do a 4x3x2 but it would just be ridiculous where I live now.

Lol..

You wrote all this out like it's an hour job.
It's never going to go like you are planning it. It never does.
Sounds like an all day job to me.

Taking out rock, adding rock, moving stuff around, always a risk. You can never tell how stuff will react.

Looks pretty darn good right now though.

Holy $h!t ! that's a nice tank.

You already have way too many pieces for a minimalism look. Just let it fill in as is. Once you start moving rocks around, there goes the rest of your day.

Your tank looks awesome! I asked you about quite a while ago for photos of your tank. Leave as be. I went for the minimal look some years back, but didnt like the fact that I had less areas for SPS...I love my SPS and there is always another one that needs to go in my tank... I like your tank as it is.
