SPS Dominated 47G Reef

Look forward to it. :) Now if Biggles, Bello and a few others could join that would be a blast! :)
:lmao:
Kevin is better looking than me.
There are a a few SPS which are still brown and a few that are halfway colourful because of me not taking care of the Alk level...for example, my Hot Pink Millepora is no longer as nice. The Red/Rose Millepora now looks better.

That would be aweeeeesome sahin!
Wish they can come too!

I'm sure you will take care of the alk level and your colors will come where you like them:thumbsup:
Personally i love them already:rollface:

You are making me want to go back to my BB days and i hate you for that:fun4:

He has inspired me glaukos I'm now in the middle of a BB rebuild. Never ran BB before and the more I've been reading into them the keener it has made me to give it a go! Thanks Sahin :)

I'd love to come and see your tank if I had the cash( bello was talking about sending someone on an all expenses paid trip. And all I have to do is get on his bad side lol:p) maybe one day I can make it over there and meet some of you guys in person :)

Sahin, your tank looks amazing. I have been lurking for a while now and you have always been one to comment on good things about any reef tank. I have always looked forward of reading your comments and questions, you are truly a great reefer at heart. I sincerely hope you well and now that I have seen your tank, it is now one of my favorite.

Hey Sahin, very nice of you to say but all i did was remind you of things you already knew mate, things that got lost in the jumble of techno reefing lol. I'm going to be BB soon btw in my effort to detox the water and the bucket of artificial salt finally came today - who's learning from who........... you have no idea how reassuring it is to have both you and Bello to go to for advice on techniques i'm not at all familiar with
I hope you can swing some more pics soon, they don't have to be professional quality like your first ones ages back - just show us the money !!!!!!!!!!!!

What salinity are you running atm mate and any particular reason - i've decided to try keeping mine at a level not deadly to acros to see what happens :debi: I've always liked 1.0260 but not for any reason that i can really think of.

How are you managing lately mate, things under control i hope and your family all well. I might send Kevin over to give you a hand if i can find him, he got into the kalk again and went bush last night. :worried:

Everyone relax, the guy over the street texted me just now.

Him ' Kevin is in my garage '
Me ' Are you sure it's Kevin ? '

Kevin was subdued with the kalk'd up koala tranquilizer (cricket bat) and thrown into his tree.

Do you have any kalk in the house Sahin.........

wow! nice coloration of the corals.top down pics sure does awesome. i see that smooth skin acro, green with purple tips. is that a granulosa or loripes?
Thanks. I think the coral you refer to is a Granulosa. I cant capture the colour well, but there are at least 4 colours on this coral: Green base, which changes to a lighter green and then white, finishing with Sky Blue stems/branches and a purple tip with a white polyp. I only recently managed to pull the sky blue colour on it. So that tells me its very happy depite my recent lack of tank care.

I know I've been ghost for a little while now, but I had to say that the wait was worth it. Sahin, your tank is gorgeous. I'm so happy things are going well, buddy.
Cheers! Hope you're feeling better as well, my friend.
Thanks matey. I am feeling a fair bit better now and will get round to posting in my tank thread more, as well as posting pics etc.

WOW Sahin those corals are stunning mate I reckon bello and Biggles will be a little jealous lol
Thanks man, I doubt I could ever make those two sneaky SPS hoarders jealous. They will always be a few steps ahead of me. :headwally:
Lookin' good Sahin, As others have stated you help many so it's nice to see you getting some good results also. Happy reefing and wishing you only the best.
Thank you for the nice comments. :)

Really nice man, great tank
Thanks man, you are another SPS reefkeeper I've always thought very highly of, so your comment is much appreciated. :)

Sahin, I just tried to take a full down top down shot of the tank like you did, and all I got was bunch of bloody led bulbs, thanks a lot :furious:

You did promise more pics didn't you? :p

I am hoping the colours will improve soon. I can see one or two corals already have improved and are showing good colouration. Just need to keep things stable now.

As for BB or sand. Honestly, I would go sanded any day for the aesthetics, but I got Dinos twice previously and I am not taking a chance. So BB for me for this current tank. The April 2014 TOTM had sand and went BB...has a stunning tank too.

Have a read of the April 2014 TOTM if you havent already done so: http://reefkeeping.com/joomla/index.php/current-issue/article/145-tank-of-the-month
The tank has been BB for around 11 months now. Can you please share why you want to change to BB? I've always preferred sand to be honest, but the BB is sure easier to deal with nutrients.

I'd love to come and see your tank if I had the cash( bello was talking about sending someone on an all expenses paid trip. And all I have to do is get on his bad side lol) maybe one day I can make it over there and meet some of you guys in person
Thank mate. But I dont think Bello would be paying the expense to send you to the UK...the idea is to send "mates" to Australia...the reason for such a holidy is a sinister one...

Wow, thats really nice of you to say that. :) Thank you. I love this hobby, and try to help others. Ultimately, I would love to see the hobby progress to the point where we KNOW EXACTLY what is needed to colour up SPS corals. That is my dream, seriously. :)

Hey matey, going BB is a very good idea to try and detox your tank. You cant obviously remove the rocks, but the sand having such a great surface area, any toxins if its not just in the water, can also be bound on the sand particles, and removing the sand will also remove much of whatever toxins leached from those stupid nuclear waste containers. Never listen to Kevin and his stupid ideas...:) The nuclear material turning all your acros multi coloured and turning Green Acros to Straberry Shortcakes is yet another of Kevins post kalk sniffing moment idea...
I hope you can swing some more pics soon, they don't have to be professional quality like your first ones ages back - just show us the money !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll try and post a few this weekend mate.
What salinity are you running atm mate and any particular reason - i've decided to try keeping mine at a level not deadly to acros to see what happens I've always liked 1.0260 but not for any reason that i can really think of.
I have alays run 1.026, but recently started to run 1.025 because of the bottle of Microbelift Special Blend...however, to be honest, I think there is quite a lot of variability/calibration errors/accuracy of equipment etc, that running somewhere around 1.025-1.026 is just fine.
One tip: a few years ago I took a large clean vial with airtight lid to my LFS and demanded they fill it up with the water from their AMAZING display tank. They refused at first and wanted to know what I as going to do with it, when I reminded them that I programmed and setup the dosers for their SPS frag tank, and their amazing display, no more quesions were asked and they handed over a vial full of water. I tested the water which confirmed my Deltec Refractometer was spot on with what their Refractometer reported the LFS display water. This is to this day my calibration fluid. I only open the vial for a few seconds to take out a few drops and its shut tight again.

How are you managing lately mate, things under control i hope and your family all well. I might send Kevin over to give you a hand if i can find him, he got into the kalk again and went bush last night.
I'm feeling much better mate. Family all well. I'm going to resume my weekly water changes again. My water looks like its yellowed and I hate to see that. I hope all is good at your end.

Biggles, Kevin looks SCARY! What sort of Kalk has he been snorting? He looks out of his mind! Dont worry about me mate, I have half a jar of Kalk power left...plenty to deal with any crazed out Koalas!

Sahin, I just tried to take a full down top down shot of the tank like you did, and all I got was bunch of bloody led bulbs, thanks a lot :furious:

You did promise more pics didn't you? :p

Biggles did tell you those LED things were bad for SPS corals... Get Radiums and the photography issue will be resolved immediately and those Green Acros will turn into their true colours. :p

I attached a circular polariser on my lens and half turned it to cut out most of the reflection from the lights. :p

Yes sahin I had a read on that setup it's an awesome system. I'm not changing my 4x4x2 I'm actually converting my custom made 3ft LPS tank into a BB SPS tank. The LPS just didn't excite me as much as SPS does so if I'm going to have another SPS tank I may as well make it different to the other :)

These are some good news sahin buddy!
I'm sure other corals will follow too:thumbsup:

As far as the BB...i still hate you:p

Forget to pass that small but crucial piece of information on to your 'buddy' did you Sahin......... i wouldn't trust that bit about the half turn Bello, prob make the lens fall off into the tank :fun4:
If i could have anything i think i'd want a true pink milli, got anything you really want mate but don't find easy to acquire.
Where are the pics, once a journal passes 15 pages it's mandatory to have acro pics on every page - it's in the rules. :reading:

Since its a UK Bank holiday weekend, the inlaws are coming over today ...so no pics today mate. I've made the wife aware that Monday is "messing around with tank day". So Monday I'll take some pics.

As for the half turn on the circular polariser, I was hoping the lens would fall off and make frags of the Setosa and a few other choice Acros young Bello has in his tank...then, he'd be posting them to me...but you've given the game away Biggles...:deadhorse:

As for my Pink Milli, it browned out a fair bit due to my messing with KZ Coral Vitaliser and possibly the Alk drop...however, it looks to be coloring up a little.
Pretty bummed out about the Pink Milli. :angryfire: But, as it with SPS corals, they will colour up given time and good water. It was nicely coloured up before so I know I can get it looking great again.

Sahin, you're breaking the revered "PIC" rules. We must have them pics!!!!

I'd try out that top down method you were talking about, but it was all greek to me (I'll get Mike to translate :p).

BTW, I'm still having a horrible time getting my pink millie to colour up as well. Hoping a change in LED config will help.

Biggles I was going to post that pic as it was taken in my garage!!!!!! You sneaky sneaky Biggles. I took the photo and ran out of the garage screaming and this is what he looked like
apy7u9e6.jpg
you can see why I ran screaming can't you. And this is how Biggles takes Kevin in the car with him
e9epyva5.jpg

It was taken by a person at a red light (no idea how he knew it was a red light?) And he missed a pedestrian by just inches when he thought it was green but it was still red (Biggles doesn't even like green traffic lights!!!) So its not just green corals:p

I'm off tomorrow too Sahin, going to suck out most of the sand during another big water change. What is the vitaliser stuff supposed to do mate, doesn't sound like you saw good results.
