SPS Dominated 47G Reef

Absolutely love it Sahin! Great looking update! I think I saw a beautiful leopard wrasse in one of the pictures. Where does it sleep at night?
Thank you for the nice compliment. I'm not sure if its a Leopard Wrasse or Peacock Wrasse. My LFS sold called it a Peacock Wrasse. I added a plastic cup half filled with sand. I placed it at the back behind the large rock. He sleeps in there. As soon as the lights start dimming (around 8pm) he jumps into the cup. Didnt even take him a day to work out what the cup of sand is for. :D

Sahin, your tank is beautiful! I hope to one day be able to achieve a beautiful tank like this!
Thank you. You can achieve even better than me. Just follow the general guidelines that most of the best SPS keepers adhere to with their tanks, have patience and let the tank mature. Dont try to force things to move faster. In time, given stability, any tank can look great. :)

Just a brief update: my blue Prostrata is colouring up. It really browned out recently so I am happy to see its starting to colour up again. Noticed some of the tips turning really nice blue and having that "shimmer" returning. All good signs. :)

My smaller SSC frag has really coloured up. The larger one is still mainly brown. I hope in a month I can report that some of the brown SPS have coloured up. If they do, I will try and post some nice pics of them. :)

Good news on the prostrata and SSC coloring up nicely Sahin :) Sounds like things are moving in the right direction mate  A new batch of pics when you're ready will be cool - lots of people including me look forward to the beautiful and accurate color rendition you capture in your photos mate. :)

I wanted to ask you btw what you think may be behind my apparent inability to keep montis happy even when the acros are smiling brightly. It's really annoying to see guys new to the hobby able to keep them easily and i basically kill or brown out 9/10 i try to keep. Might be a trace element issue considering my minimal water change history, using the artificial salt might see things turn around if i keep up with regular changes - time will tell i guess. Oh and remember i kill seri's as well, i stopped buying them for the same reason as the monti's and they're supposed to be easy as well lol.
I need monti and seri advice mate..........

You hit the nail on the head Mike, Sahin and his evil clone Bello both have trouble when it comes to full acro disclosure............. at any time just assume both of them have at least 2-3 beauties hidden away coloring up. :mixed:

Bloody disgusting is all i can say, honest reefers like us don't stand a chance Mike......:reading:

You are not kidding.... I have yet to see a crappy browned out corals in sahin's tank. I think he might be going color blind lol

Geez sahin I'd hate to see your colourful SPS if these are the browned out ones :lmao:
Doing an awesome job buddy keep up the good work!

Sahin your photo skills and sps are something too be very proud of as most of us on this form know how hard it's to get these beautiful animals to color up and thrive. I have enjoyed reading through your thread and look forward seeing your sps fill that 47 gallons:beer:

Hi Sahin!

Your corals and pictures are simply jaw dropping, each and every of them are a masterpiece.

I'm pretty sure your tank once settled will be a serious favourite for TOTM. Truly amazing mate!

I've been reefing for more than 25 years, started up with those wooden air driven skimmers and have had of many kinds since then. One year and a half I decided go skimmerless (on a 130 gal SPS dominated reef) as my Deltec SC2060 was not pulling out any crap from the water. Since then, everything has improved a lot, acros are colouring up, no algae or ciano at all...I have three big surgeons, two blue jaw triggers, hawkfish, and lots of small fishes that eat generously 4/5 times a day. NO3 and PO4 are undetectable under Red Sea and Hanna tests (running biopellets, siporax and GAC in three reactors).

I'll soon setup a 400 gal bare bottom tank mainly for acros and few fishes but I'm not sure about going skimmerless (on my 130 gal reef it took about two years to develop a stable biology on rocks and sand to permit success).

What are your thoughts about this?
