SPS friendly fish?

Well I am trying to figure what else I could add to my 29G livestock wise. I have a couple anthias that have been in there for 4 months that are doin great with the high flow and my two baby clowns seem to be ok in their low flow area with the rose bubble tip.

Chromis seem like they might work, but they seem to be rather "dumb" fish in a sense, despite their neat schooling pattern. A couple people mentioned fathead anthias, but I never see them sold here in healthy pairs.

Spotted mandarins seem like an interesting candidate and I have gotten two green mandarins to eat frozen mysis though training, but the high current in an SPS tank might make it hard to feed.

Basically I want to add some color that most SPS colors tend to not have (yellow, red, etc) and some movement.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

I thought the same thing about chromis until I got some. The add alot to a tank imo. possum wrasse and midas blenny would work too. I think anthias might be a bit cramped in a 29 so I would not add any more.

I did the six line in my 29 a few weeks ago. I was so happy until one evening I came out and it was no longer in the tank. Took a leap and jumped out the back. :( I haven't figured out what to place in there yet. I only have one true perc and will get another so its a similar situation. I'm leary of pseudo's due to their aggressive nature. I'm debating on a firefish, but am a little concerned about the flow being too strong.

Perhaps a clown goby.

I've also debated either a pigmy or coral beauty angel.

good luck

Some yellow? Some flash? Definately a choris wrasse! :D

I've got a sixline and a midas blenny in my SPS dominated 29gal. both are great fish. However, the midas may not be a good choice with the other fish, they tend to be a little agressive.

6-line wrasse.

In smaller aquariums, the 6 line wrasse can and will attack the mandarin fish because they both prefer and compete for the same type of live foods. However, in larger systems, (ie., 150 gallons or more), these fish seem to be more compatible.

For smaller SPS systems, I like the green clown goby and royal gramma.

I've read that clown gobys like to pearch on sps and will nip at the tissue where they pearch...any truth to that?

Prodman, good idea with the possum wrasse. I remember seeing one in Jeff's tank on the tour last summer and I thought it was the neatest little fish. I might have to try chromis too.

Justin, that yellow coris wrasse seems interesting too. Has anyone had experience with any here? I really like its color!

Mariner, chalk bass interest me as well. I just never see them for sale here for some reason.

CeeGee, the McCosker's wrasse seems neat too. They have a pretty wide variation in color from the one's that I have seen, but I haven't seen many in smaller tanks. I do have a top so jumping isnt an issue.

I have sps with: a mandarin (lots of rock, aragonite base), a purple and a red firefish, a blue chromis, a yellow watchman and (because my live rock came infested with grape caulerpa) a scribbled rabbit---he's really very well-mannered for an elephant. I have every snail known to man, hermits, and conchs, cleaner and peppermint shrimp. I've never had any creature misbehave toward my corals except the peppermints, who suddenly thought my pocillopora was a threat, but gave up after the second assault.

That was the first fish that came to mind for me as well.

My green clown goby loves to hide out in Acropora corals, but has never harmed them. Pretty cool little fish. Reef safe in my opinion. I never seen this fish nip at corals ... prefers brine shrimp soaked in Selcon and Cyclopeeze. My clown goby came in as a hitchhiker from an wild Acropora colony I purchased last summer.
