SPS Growth pics...

Any opinions? Are the lighter tips on the Green Slimer normal?

My green slimer grew better under LEDs than halides. I used the Chinese D120(reef breeders unit) and had good growth. The actinics don't help with growth at all. The whites will make everything grow but will cause really bad algae blooms in the process. So run GFO or dose carbon.

But I don't see 'amazing' growth from these photos. Try it over a couple months before deciding

I would say that considering most sps take that long just to settle in, that things are going great. Color seems to have improved and there's a little growth already. I second the fact of not filling up too quick.. or else once your tank is full of blah looking pieces, you'll just want to sell them off to make room for higher end stuff. Which is probably what most of us have done at some point!

Are you sure about that? I always thought that most of the growth came from the 420nm to 480nm range.

I can already see that in my near future...lol. I have a "so so" birdsnest in "prime real estate" right now. He is going to have to move.

I meant if you solely run actinics you will not get growth. I ran actinics for two weeks straight when I had a problem with cyano. Everything made it through but nothing "grew" or if it grew it was not noticeable. The corals and clams survived so I assume photosynthetic activity did take place.

Thanks. I have really seen some strong growth out of a different ORA birds nest over the last week.

Is it the pink one? I had a 1/4 inch piece that has quadrupled in size with multiple branches in a little less than two weeks :D they're fast growers, but I like the pink compared to a lot of the other pieces in the tank.

Here it is. This was actually an hour shy of 6 days....

Nice progression shots.. If you keep it up it will be a cool look at your tank overtime. Seems to be going good for you and I second the not adding blah fillers. I'm there as we speak and putting together a sale thread =) and most aren't really blah corals to most but there are just so many better (to me) sps that I want.

Thanks. I am hoping I will be able to look back at this thread in the future and see where it all started. I have added some other pieces I have been wanting (Tyree Pink Lemonade, Oregon Tort, Pearlberry, Red Dragon, Hawkin's Echinata) that I will be adding to the thread over time also.

That's some great growth ellis:thumbsup:
Can't wait to see pics from the new pieces!
Pink lemonade is one of my all time favorite:inlove:
