sps growth

running my first sps dominate tank. I have 30-40 frags in the tank. Some frags grow faster than others, but my question is on how they usually grow. They all seem to be fairly quick at crusting over the frag plug and rock, but extremely slow to grow outward from the rock. Is this normal?
i.e. I have a red planet and garf bonsai, jesus stag and more that were 1/2 in frags, that still stick up 1/2 in, but crusted roughly 3in around on the rock.

SPS in my experience usually encrust before they talk off. If they're encrusting quickly, I'd say it's safe to say they will grow quickly as well if you keep doing whatever you're doing.

Completely normal. Especially for red planet and bonsai.

Normal. Most SPS will encrust quite a bit before they grow out.

The bigger a base they create, the stronger to colony.

I had a Mille for 6 months and all I saw was the base growing. Base then was about 5" before it started growing vertical
