I am currently looking at lighting options for my 60G 48"x18"x16"H mixed reef and was wondering which of these two fixtures you would go with for this application ?

Marineland Pro Series MH/T5 combo w/ Moonlights

2x150w MH + 4x54w T5

or

Sunlight Supply 6 bulb Tek T5 w/ DIY modded R2 Moonlights

6x54w T5

Any and all suggestions and opinions are welcomed, thanks

I'm running 6x54w T5 lights on my 48x24x18 tank and really like that look. Later on down the road I'm going to go with an 8x54w T5 fixture. I really like the look of T5s. Problem you have to keep in mind with the T5/MH combo is heat. If you live in a place like I do where summers gets over 100 degrees most days in the summer, then T5 will be a much better choice. Also your electric bill isn't going to be as nice with the MH. I currently run a 150w on my biocube and it puts out a lot of heat and has really increased my electric bill. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the input. I also like the look of the different color combinations with T5 but have always been partial to the shimmer and overall uniqueness of MH. I feel a MH/T5 combo is the best of both worlds combined into one, however, I have doubts as to whether the mht5 combo fixture would be overkill and bleach lower light specimens in a shallow reef ... Thoughts ?
