I just got a 250w 10000k hqi (icecap) over about 20" depth of water. I heard that very few acros will flourish under this. this girl who was selling frags of blue tenius and tricolor nana said that they grew under 250w MHs...but she had 2 of them, plus 2-56w t5 actinics.

What species will give me the bang for my lighting? I want to add some branching and a variety of bright colors to my tank. preferably blue or purple.? Any suggestions or experiences?

With a 250 you should be able to keep any SPS species that you would like. If you are having problems keeping them then it is more than likely a water quality issue.

I agree, you have plenty of light focus on your water quality (not to say it is bad :) ).

it may be a question of tank length...a usualy rule of thumb is that a 250 W MH is good illumination for about a 2'x2' area. if your tank is longer than that, you may need another one.

I have 4' so I know I can't put these everywhere, but I'mma concentrate them right under the light.
