SPS Problem

Thanks guys ill be pulling the biopellets right now.. The next day I added the pellets I noticed loss of color in my bali green slimer so im guessing it was the pellets.

I'm not sure how the pellets would affect the health of an SPS piece, especially after one day. There is nothing in them that could cause problems and many people have been successful with them. Personally I just don't think that is the issue. I think the addition of the calcium reactor is a much more likely suspect. Sometimes it takes some practice to get them dialed in right and in the mean time your ph, alk, or ca may be completely off.

Food for thought, I wish I could learn my lesson but I always seem to make too many changes at once and when theres a problem I can never quite nail down the culprit. If you only did the pellets or only added the calcium reactor you would know immediately what the cause was. Now if only I could get that through my thick skull.

Make sure your magneseim levels are good and dial back your calcium reactor to run less. But by no means is 9.6 dkh high enough to cause problems. Granted its never good for things to shoot up or down to fast but with your #'s things should be fine. I would'nt worry about high alk until your creeping above 12 dkh. Adding calcium should lower your alk but make sure you maintain magnesium above 1300 adding calcium will also lower magnesium.

I was just reading around page 53 of this thread an I saw something interesting, It seem that the high amount of bacteria l activity when bio-pelets are added can use a lot of available oxygen. When you added the calcium reactor the extra co2 added would also displace some dssolved oxygen.:thumbdown
Did you notice your PH running lower at this time?
