Yup, my RBTA has a ring of death around it as well. I'm just glad the two I have in the tank have stopped wandering!

I got a RBTA from a friend who was breaking down the tank. It was kept in a specimen container which was zipped tie to the top so that it wouldn't escape into my tank. Was waiting for it to get healthy and then give it away. Well, one of the tie broke and escaped. My reaction was "Oh F***, I didn't want it in the tank." The GF and kids reactions were "Yeah - it's free"

Now I know what I can look forward to. :mad2:

I love my RBTA. I got it for free too. :D ..

I don't have any SPS around it. I have a frag rack some what on top of it. The stupid Tunze pump somehow turned 30 degree and blew everything off the rack. Several thing landed right on or near the RBTA. Other stuff are recovering right now but this colony didn't make it. ..

Hey, pretty much anything touching anything else means disaster for one of them!

Zoos, don't seem to bother other zoos, and some softies seem harmless (well, contact wise anyway. Don't know about chemical warfare!). But from my experience, any SPS or LPS touching anything else usually isn't good. RBTA's and other anemone's (Aiptasia!) that are highly mobile is hard to control.

I mentioned that seeing a RBTA in a rather nice looking tank that it's playing with fire. Someone said to me "but he needs it for the clowns" ooooh boy, thats why I want to set up (as soon as my fricking diamond bits get here!) a separate tank for SPS stuff, I dont care so much about the softies they can stand a sting here and there :)

aren't there other anenomes for clowns that aren't as prone to be as mobile as the RBTA ? (yes, I know little to nothing about anenomes as I have always been anti-anenome in our tanks).

If you set up a whole new tank, then set up your rockwork, then stick in the RBTA and let it wander to wherever it wants to. Once it's settled (hasn't moved in like 2 months), then mount stuff around it. Still no guarantee that it won't wander though.

Mine have stayed mostly in place for a long time.

My (new to me) clowns love them but I know clowns don't NEED them, even though it's really cool to see. (And RBTAs aren't the "natural" hosting anemone for ocellaris). I hope the clowns movements don't entice the RBTA to go on a walkabout!
