sps while changing rock work

im thinking about changing my tank full of rock to a minimal approach. but i have about 40 sps frags and mini colonies. i really want to do this. i have a section in my sump im using for a fuge. i wondering if i could move my sps frags to racks and put them in that fuge. then place a small LED about it. move a mp10 to that section of my sump as well. all while i move all the rock around and change my entire aqua scaping around. now thats my plan a few quesitons for the sps guys and gals.

will my sps hate me and have issues going from my t5s to leds even though the water will be the same and basically the flow the same? Is that going to be my best opinion putting them in the frag/fuge section?

or should i just try and sell the frags off?

next if i go with the minimal rock work should i keep the rock i take out and place it in a tank that i can plumb on my big tank, to keep the same amount of rock with the system?

How long are looking at having them in their temporary home? That would be the ultimate factor. If you are only talking a day or two, then no light would really be necessary. Just my opinion.

The minimalist approach is awesome. I went from a lot of rock and love it. As far as your situation, if you change the rock configuration quickly, for a day or so like mentioned, the frags will be fine in the fuge. You can take a little rock out over a period of time. You don't want to take half of the rock out and destroy your biological balance. Just keep whatever you don't want in the display and shove it in the sump and over time take it out.

I just did this today and other than sps losing some color I think everything went ok. Will probably do some extra water changes (did 20% today) as the biological component will need some time to catch up to the changes.

Why not get a bucket add your corals in there with a heater and pump while doing your scape, most likely you will move detritus and cause a mini cycle.
