is the name for squilla sushi. Had it a while back (shows you how often we go there, the waitress was shocked I'd eat a mantis, what with me having one in a tank), and wasn't that impressed. It was ok, nothing to write home about. Probably because it was frozen. Tasted a lot like fish, more so than some of the fish I was eating.
Fresh shako is quite good. There is also a Japanese specialty with a small squillid - usually a new molt or boiled animal removed from the shell - baked inside of a roll.
Japan has an active squillid fishery and there is also some aquaculture.
