That's really nice of Eric to give you so much time to reschedule...luckily you were on the ball and already had a backup. I seriously think that these actions taken by Borneman are unprofessional, inconsiderate, and really just awful. 11 days to cancel a relatively large speaking engagement is just horrible practice. He's not going to be asked to big events anymore with an attitude like that. Imagine if he did something like this at IMAC or MACNA...he'd be excommunicated from his speaking arrangements forever.

Who else feels that ORCA and SRC should never invite Eric Borneman to our events again? Maybe I'm by myself on this, but that is just unacceptable behavior by such a respected name in reef-caretaking. He was really the one I wanted to hear from...but then again he has not even picked up his findings from the salt study yet alone drawn any conclusions. What a waste of so much data. If it's that much work, send it to a data analyst like myself to draw your conclusions. Don't just set it and forget it.

And you're sounding very professional yourself there buddy.

Thank you. I thought my comments were very much inline with how I (and many who have commented, including people that worked on SRC) feel. I think that my comments as a hobbyist are not necessarily supposed to be professional. That being said, I feel there was nothing I stated in that whole post that I would not stand behind 100%. I think I said everything I needed to say.

I feel that this was not unprofessional and the comments were not unprovoked. If you want to get unprofessional or childish, I could say, "He started it!! He cancelled!!" but I digress.

"Your" should also be "You're" in the one sentance you posted, if you really want to talk about professional. Again, I'll stop any silly feuding by saying that my comments are my beliefs...think what you will about me. I get angry; I get upset; and professionally speaking, I try hard to respect everyone, regardless of past differences; but I will also not hesitate to claim my opinions or differences thereof at any point in time.

Hey 55semireef!

Now calling in sic (When you are not) is some really great advice to give a young man....
Let's get some really good habits going .....
What's next ? It okay to pilfer from the company cause they will not miss it?
How about faking being hurt on the job so you can collect 60% of your pay to sit home?
(This does carry jail time if you are caught and will follow you for the rest of your employable life....)
Seth : You made the right decision there will be other SRCs
and a good work record will follow you as well as a bad one....

I guess it might be hard for you to call in sick if career is a truck driver. :D. I am not sure what your sense of humor is but I was joking with my statement. Notice all the smiley faces at the end of my comment....hence I was joking there. Don't get all worked up about a comment on the internet.

The problem though is this is the issue with people today. Just call off. Many have the philosphy that asking for forgiveness is better then asking for permission. However, all that does is just lessen the credibility of that person.

I think Jay and Mac are correct on this. It's been several years since I've managed restaurants but the overall work ethic has been sliding for a long time. You can see it when you go to grocery stores, chain stores, etc..... It's a sliding baseline that needs to be stopped and reversed. I know we are not the only 3 on this forum that feel this way.

I'll never forget this one young lady that didn't show up for a couple of her shifts and didn't call. Then she comes in explaining some crap expecting me to say "oh okay", but she was blown away when I told her she didn't have a job any more. She said "you're firing me?", and said "no, what you did is job abandonment and you're gone". She cried for a long time and all the employees saw her. Ah, good memories, as it was like getting a wart removed. The problem was her attitude was more the norm than the exception.

The reason it's important on this thread is Seth is a sharp kid that can have a good future. He is building his work ethic and a good one will easily put him above 75% of his peers.

People complain about jobs being outsourced to India and part of the reason that happens is work ethic.

Man ! What did I start?
I didn't mean to start another subject all together.....
The man was kidding ....
He sent me a PM and explained himself ...
I 'm sure Seth was able to see that....
He's a smart young man and I see him jumping way ahead of his peers....
Yo! Bluecarpet:
Cheep labor???
Work ethic says it all...
Look at the asians. If you are a no show 500 people are inline for your job.
You better have a good work ethic or you have no job.
.75 cents an hour or $100 an hour.

So the solution is just to make our country poorer:). Wealth and work ethic I do not believe are polar opposites...I think it has much more to do with the way one is raised and our society's outlook on jobs. We are not working as hard anymore because our structure here has given way to the loss of true worth and value in the corporate structure. Noone is any longer rewarded for doing a good job, but instead punished for doing a bad one. Training people is like training dogs...it works much better on a praise-based system than the other way around...just my $.02:)

What are you doing up this early???????????

I could write for hours on this subject, but instead I'll just reference SRC because I think it's the perfect example of work ethic. Clearly, the product of this group working together was much greater than just the sum of the individuals. Matt and Mel went above and beyond what was expected and their enthusiasm was contagious, thus the group would not let them fail.

I think it's time for a smoke-break:):):)...

John, I'm usually up by 1pm(my tanks start at 12:30, so I need to be up to feed and top-off). It's the a.m. that gets me...
