Ssteve ghetto reef build.

Well I think I am due for a couple pics but for now I'll just give a quick update.

Tank is doing great, started to see a bit of algae so I tossed some rowaphos in a media bag in the sump, hopefully that helps with some of the excess nutrients until I can get a reactor and start running gfo.

I added a blue linckia starfish about two weeks ago and just saw him for the first time in the open yesterday.

Added a small hippo tang at the same time and she's been doing great, the hippo and powder blue are a couple of my favorite fishes so while my tank might eventually be on the small end for her I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

The skimz is freaking awesome, it was a little hard to get the cup off initially but it's not a problem anymore, and getting it dialed in perfect isn't overly easy but even when it's not setup perfect it will pull a ton of skim. I am skimming pretty wet right now trying to get every bit of excess out but I am dialing it back every couple of days.

Next up is to start dosing two part. I have some two part that I purchased with a tank I have manually been dosing just to get my alk and ph up but once I get new test kits I'll setup my new neptune DOS.

Pretty certain that my rbta is history cause the rock I last saw it in its no longer in and I can't find it anywhere now. It's been about 10-12 days since I seen it last. Really perplexing honestly. Nothing else in the tank has had issues except that one nem.

I have swapped out a few bulbs on my fixture and now running three blue+, two atinic and one purple plus. I think ultimately I will be running three blue plus, three atinic and two kessil a160's. I like a more blue look but also miss the shimmer so I think I will be able to have that shimmer as well as brighten up the tank with the kessils easier without running a lot of bright white light from the t5's if that makes sense.

The tank is in need of some corals though so if anyone has anything they are thinking of selling for a good price keep me in mind. I would really like to get my hands on several torches and frogspawn but open to anything with some color to it.

What else do you have for biological support other than sand and two small rocks?

Theres a lot more rock now. Look at post #22. You can see some in the display but the sump is also full now too. Got a bunch of rock that's been in a established tank since 2002. The pic on the first page was the day it was all setup with just the two rocks I was curing in a trash can.

Been blind dosing a small amount of b-ionic two part and a little magnesium so the levels don't sink too far. Just finally got my test kits in and here's where I am at

Ca 380
Alk 7.8
Mag 1100

I am almost out of two part so it's finally time to decide what I will be using. Leaning towards brs and running the Red Sea color program for trace elements.

Getting some more frags from a couple members this week which is always exciting for me cause comparing the same corals in different tanks is one of my favorite parts of the club.

Well its about time I start a new thread since my tank has gone from cheap and "ghetto" to quite the money pit.

recently added a set of neptune WAV powerhead. Talk about some serious flow. These things push a ton of water.

Just acquired a LifeReef calcium reactor

purchased a New Apex.

I thought I was having some apex issues but it turns out it was a simple short with how I ran the temp prob. Either way I got tired of dealing with having to run a gaming adapter and with the addition of the calcium reactor I wanted to be able to run two PH probs.

Everything is growing and color is good on most stuff. I am running old bulbs right now though and having some pretty bad algae issues which I am hoping with time and new bulbs will sort itself out.

Well it's been a rough couple weeks. Ato broke for the second time and dumped 5gal of rodi in the sump. Corals didn't like it and colors suffered for a few days. When everything seemed to be doing a little better I had a issue with my calcium reactor and came home to a dry sump and 20gal of saltwater on my garage floor. Now it seems the tank is crashing cause when I got the calrx back online the effluent line was pinched, alk dropped then shot up.

So it looks like I'm in the process of loosing most of my corals, I need a new ato and am kind of on the verge of shutting it down.
