Stand and hood FS - Marineland 300

I have a brand new hood and stand for sale. There is nothing wrong with it. I want to build a custom hood and stand for this tank over the winter. If anyone is planning on buying a 300 gallon deep dimension tank this year and wants the stand and hood cheap. Here is your chance to get a great deal. I believe this set retails for close to 1400.00. I'll let it go for 1000.00 or the best offer I get.

I haven't decided if I am going to use steel or wood for the base yet. My uncle runs a welding shop so I can get it taken care of at the cost of the steel. The issue is getting it in the house since the tank is 36" deep. I'd like my stand to be about 36" - 40" high. I would need to pull out the stationary panel in my sliding door to get the stand in if I go with steel. I'm not 100 percent certain that is possible just yet. I can easily build a wooden stand inside the house piece by piece. The issue that concerns me with going the wooden route is the bulk of the wood that would be near the bulkhead holes for the drains and the returns. The hood will need to be 15"-18" high to accomodate the LA3's along with the 4 - 6' VHO actinics that are going in. I am also looking at puting an actuator to raise and lower the hood as well. I will have to engineer that as well. I have seen a couple different methods people have employeed. I am still undecided on which method I prefer to use. So, that adds more concern to my debate on wood or steel trying to decide which mounting points to use on the actuators that will raise and lower the hood.

Are you the Josh that built Nicks stand?

Okay..

I haven't had anyone interested at 1000. Any offers anyone want to pitch at me for this?

Im afraid the NE ohio market just can't be that large for the product ;c) heh.

This is an item that needs to be in a store to be sold in my opinion. I was only interested in the tank when I bought the setup. It just came with it, so I need to clear it out so I can build my new setup around the tank.

Yea, tough to move something that is so limited in application. I am like you a bit, I build all my stands, gives me one additional fun project when setting up a new tank :c).

Mike, If you have your uncle's shop build the front and rear sections as one piece components and then have the cross bars bolt into place you could easily carry the panels in and then bolt the cross bars into place and support at least 10,000 lbs with a few 3/8 or even 5/16 bolts. It seems like the cheaper, sturdier and more convenient method to get a stand into your house. Then you don't have to remove anything as far as doors and you could skin it with nice wood if you decide you want that look.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks Kevin,

I have been debating the 2 piece split stand idea. I figured there would be more steel involved and more cost to go with it. I need to sit down and draw up a plan and figure out just what it's going to take both ways.

The split stand would be easy to do. If you want help with the design of it let me know. I have a TIG welder and can make it look pretty enough you might want to leave the frame visible! I've built stands for engines of all sizes both automotive and aircraft(break in stand) and a rotating stand that my 1962 Porsche has been hanging from for the last 4 yrs. If i hadn't started the 220 it might be closer to being done LOL.

Hi Mike,

I doubt anyone will buy that unless they have another Marineland tank like yours.

Maybe Dan at Salty can help as he sells those tanks. Not sure how much you paid for the stand, but I'm sure he'd buy it below his cost or maybe you can work something out giving him a piece of the profits..............just a thought.

Anyone even remotely interested? I need new reflectors that will run me about 500. If there is no interest at this time. I think I'll make a tv stand out of this in my basement. It sucks to have 1/4 of my garage eaten up by this mammoth :)

I have to laugh that you are making an entertainment center out of a stand, and I made a stand out of one of your old entertainment centers.

hahahah, yeah that is a little comical isn't it. How about once I make it into an entertainment you come buy this one and turn it back into a tanks stand :)
