Stand for 260 gal tank help

I started to read the DIY stand build thread by rocket engineering I think was the op. So after reading about 15 pages I find nothing for large tanks. My tank is 96" long and 24" wide and acrylic. Can anyone help with info on building my stand? Also help with best picks for skinning the stand so it can be stained.

At that size, a steel frame will be your best bet if you can find someone to make it for you. A stand using RocketEngineer's basic plan will work, but you will need to have supports every 24" or so along it's entire length. I would use 2x6's for the horizontal parts, but 2x4's for the vertical supports would probably be sufficient.

You can skin it using anything from 1/4" to 3/4" plywood. I would go with 3/4 just because, well, just because. It will make hanging doors much easier regardless of whether you go with hinged, magnets, or cleats.

What size boards would I use as per colors on your build thread. That's what I'm having a tuff time figuring out

First: 96*24*24/231=240g not 260g.....Just saying.

If you place the center leg dead center, I recommend a 2X6 for the top frame and 2X4 for the rest.

Oh no! MATH!

:)

RE: making it straight.

Buy kiln dried, quarter sawn (if you can). Let it dry more in your garage - supported every 12 inches and flat for several months. Using a moisture meter is best.

Then it's over to the jointer, either power or hand plane. Easy, peezy! :)

After you get it straight, assemble quickly before it moves again.

Are you a woodworker, or know somebody who is? For my 84" 265 I ripped double thickness 3/4" plywood as the horizontal long axis runs on my table saw. 8" wide, ruler flat and almost no deflection that I could measure even when only supported at the ends (but I still put in two, sets of intermediary legs). Very happy with the result.
