Stand Height

On your large reef tank , what is the height of your stand ?

If you had it to do over , would you change the height , and why ?

my 375 is on a 36" stand and I love the height, maybe 2-4" taller but I got the tank for insanley cheap so I cant complain.

I built my stand at 42'',so I would have plenty of room for a 20'' tall sump and have room to take equipment out if needed.

I also wanted the tank up at that height when standing and looking at it.I have a 120 on a 32'' and have to bend down to look at corals on the bottom.

I built my 210g stand so the tank is at 38" . Did it both so I could look right in the tank and for the extra room underneath for sump/fuge and equipment like skimmer. I thinks its a good height and would do it again for my needs

my old 360 gallon was at 48"...it sucked for viewing while seated. my new 180 cube is at 36" and its the perfect height for viewing while watching tv in the living room. you also need to take into account who will be doing the most viewing. on my 360 gallon at 48", my wife who is like 5'4 only saw the bottoms of 75% of my corals, however it was perfect for me being 6'1.

sabodish , Thank you for all the info as well . You all have been a big help .

Keep them coming . If keeping equipment under the stand wasn't a factor , would that change anything ?

No problem. Even if I didn't have equipment underneath I would keep it same height. I would say most of the people that come here are shorter than I. Most of them are 5`5 to just under 6`. Here is a pic the same month I set it up way back and as you can see its the perfect height for my daughter and wife who are the same height at 5`5" for viewing. I think that is a key factor in the tank placement anyways. I just didn't have any current pictures with anyone in front of it LOL

I'm 5'5'', and my stand is 36" tall. My tank is 30" tall. It is perfect for me as I can stand and see everything and sit and see everything.

I built the stand for my 240 at 38" high. My previous tank sat on a commercially built stand and hated how low it was. This, for me, is the perfect height. It's comfortable to view either sitting or standing and I only need a small step stool to reach the bottom.

My 180 sits on a 32" stand and I hate it. Huge problem for equipment and not a great viewing height at all. Got a deal on the tank with stand and didn't know enough to realize that the stand was going to be an issue. At this point I dislike it enough that am going to go through the hassle of replacing it very soon with a 36".

I built my stand 40" for my 180 to sit on. Coming from a 72 with an oceanic stand, the extra height is great so you dont have to bend over as much.

My upcoming 300G / 8' will be on a 34" for the following reasons:
-it will be by a kitchen table for easy seated viewing
-easier for kids to view
-modern style in the house, where pictures and everything else tend to be mounted a little lower than normal

I previously had a 4' fresh water in my old house that was on a 4' stand, it was great for standing adults, but not for kids.

One important thing to note is door accsess. I am just 1 1/2" away from using a standard 75 gal for a sump but I am forced to get a custom sump made and spend lots of cash.

my 300 gallon is 44" tall. I love it. I wanted it to a height to seem as if it was a painting on the wall. So awesome you just walk right up to it.
