Stand paint

I'm working on finishing up my stand build and have noticed that a lot of people paint the inside of their stands and canopy's white instead of staining them. Is there a reason you picked paint vs stain? Also what type of paint is everyone using?

I've seen some people use pickup truck bedliner to paint the inside as well, Habor Freight sells some that's not too costly

I used appliance epoxy from Home Depot. I believe it's by Rustoleum.

Anyways, it's awesome, very hard finish and extremely easy to clean.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to be installing the interior of the stand this week so planning on picking up one of the paints suggested above today after work.

Painting it white just brightens it up a little, in what is generally a fairly dark area, using an enamel or epoxy based paint makes it durable, easy to clean, and waterproof.

Thanks guys ill make sure to get something enamel or epoxy based when I stop by the store today. I plan on putting LED's inside the cabinet so I think that along with the white should make everything really easy to see.

I did one coat of Kilz primer, followed by 2 coats of the white epoxy. The stand was built from pine which really sucks up/absorbs paint.

Like everyone has said, it is mainly to brighten things for easy viewing of your equipment. The best paint to use is an oil base. It is totally waterproof and will wipe any salt scum off with ease. The best paint to use is Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo. Use the alkyd undercoater for your primer. I cut my finish coat with a couple splashes of mineral spirits, and it flows like a dream. The finish looks like it's sprayed on when it dries, and your hand will glide over it like its glass after it dries. I've used it on my stand, and trim and doors in my home. It's by far the best paint money can by.

I actually did stain mine, but I covered it w/ a clear coat of polyeurethane, minwax fast drying poly is what I use and it seals very well.
I do agree white does brighten up the sump area though and looks very clean, I went w/ convenience since I stained my whole stand at the same time and wanted interior to match exterior.
