Stand question

While I'm waiting for the tank to come in I wanted to finish my stand this weekend. I am using rocketengineer's plan. I wanted to make it 36" high, 54" long and 24" wide to fit the 75 gal with a little extra room on the side. Is this too high for stability purposes? It's alot of weight and a little higher than most stands I measured at the Lfs. Thoughts?

The stand for my 150 is 40" and it's stable as a rock.

At 54" , will you be putting in cross braces to support the ends of the tank?

Your tank will be very stable, you could use that design on a 20 foot high stand and it would be rock solid. (perhaps not hurricane wind proof but so long as the foundation is good and the stand is level you'll never have to worry about the stand)

I also made the stand a little bigger (3-4 inches ) all around to have a lip to keep things. It just occurred to me that the tank won't be square over the support legs. I was going to cover the top in 3/4 hardwood ply and cover the sides with 1/2 ply. Does this effect the integrity of the srand?

The location of the support legs is not particularly important so long as the trim of the tank rests on solid lumber. Adding 3/4" ply would be fine, no particular benefit and no drawbacks. If the trim of the tank is not on dimensional lumber 3/4" ply is a requirement.

As you may know by now with everyone else comments, you will be fine. I built my 220 stand with 2X4 legs at 48 inches high. Looks like it would not be sturdy but it is very sturdy, once I attached my skin to the frame it made it even more sturdy as it bonded the frame together. Good luck and feel free to as away, that's what we are here for.
