Stan's 75g Rimless Reef

beautiful carpentry - never overlook the finer details. props to your dad, stan! it would be a nice project to renovate your basement AROUND your tank. :D

I know you just sit in class writing up possible fish list after fish list... so what are you looking at as for a fish list? lol

Hahaha, how do you know me so well!? :lolspin:

Well, this is the first tank I can "truly" have some tang(s), without the Tang Police harassing me..

So here are some fish that I'd definitely like to get..

-Purple Tang (eventually)
-Hippo Tang
-Blue Mandarin (if I can find one that accepts frozen)
-Melanarus Wrasse
-Radiant Wrasse
-Green Coris Wrasse
-Mystery Wrasse
-Porcupine Puffer (yeah I wish.. one of my favorite fish lol)
-Harlequin Filefish (one of my favorite fish as well, however if I can find one that accepts frozen)
-Sanjay's Photon Clown Pair (if I can get my hands on one for a reasonable price) or a clown with similar appearance.

That'll probably be it, all of course depending on aggression issues and stuff. However I'm happy to announce that I sold my ASM G-2 Protein Skimmer and replaced it with a Bubble Magus NAC9 (which is rated up to 500g!!!!), so I'll definitely be able to keep up with the bio-load of a large amount of fish (relative to the tank size).

Hey nanoreef13 I believe he did.

Coming along real nice Staaan... can't wait to see it completed!
Looking good bro... get it wet already lol

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Ari, finally on here! --> going to need your help with the plumbing! :fun4:

Stan, I been on here since May 2011 but never really came on until now for NY Reef Club. I'm up to a whole 4 post and now it's 5 lol. You got it on the plumbing as long as the "Russian Police" won't be mad lol jk

Finished the ceiling in the basement; new insulation, new sheetrock, some newly added joists, new recessed room lighting, and fresh new white paint.
Ceiling is completely finished. Now the new tiles awaits and I'll be ready to set up new tank (after I get around to staining/polyurethaning the stand.

Will post pictures of finished ceiling tomorrow.

The new tank will be going where the unused bench press is on the right side of the last picture. (In the center of that right side wall)

Yeah, have rock from the old tank, and some new rock that was given to me by AriMiko. Not sure if I'll need more; I'm really aiming for the "minimalistic" look. Even though I suck at aquascaping.. I'm gunna try my best. If you've seen Jarrett's new tank, thats the kinda aquascape I'm aiming for... might have to get some different shaped rocks though.. so we'll see.

LOL you have been spending too much time in those salt mines... so your going to try for 2 islands like his 300G? I love the island idea but with the large middle overflow, trying to get flow all around will suck unless you have a bunch of little powerheads.

Actually, with less rock the water should and will flow more freely. Plus I'm not an SPS freak. 2 MP10s will be providing flow besides return pump.

I'm planning for a zoa garden in the middle near the overflow as well as other lowlight species. Everything else on the 2 islands.

Hahaha, the salt mines are keeping me in this hobby!!! hahaha. :debi:

Alright.

Ordered my new MP10 ES, as well as upgraded my regular (blue box controller) MP10 to an ES driver. I wasn't planning to upgrade the old MP10 I have, but I dropped my controller, and the power supply cable doesn't sit in the jack correctly anymore, and needs to be taped in place for it to work, figured I'd just do the upgrade already since they don't make the old blue controllers. I opted out for the wireless sync, because I don't care too much for the feature.

Figuring out what I'm going to cover the tank with still.. I don't know if I want to create a vented acrylic type lid for the DT or just a net with an acrylic frame (I don't want to take away from the look of the rimless).

I'm definitely making a sump cover however.

Tiles in the basement are 90% complete, just a small 8 foot portion of the floor remains to be finished, and we are DONE with the basement renovation!

My DIY LED fixture is also being "renovated" haha.

My fixture is 2 feet, however they LEDs spatial configuration aren't too good for the tank currently because of the posistion of the center overflow. What the point of wasting light of on the over flow? So with the huge help of my good buddy AriMiko, we're going to split the fixture in half, to space out above the tank and also replace all the constant current drivers with dimmable ones.

I'll also be creating a wooden housing that will match the stand for the fixture, to hide the ugliness of the crude looking fixture.

Stand has been sanded and stained and polyurethaned, and sanded and polyurethaned, and sanded and polyurethaned, and sanded again. AND... I'M STILL NOT DONE! haha

But its coming out nice, will have some progress pics on the stand soon.

*Oh and we put a shelf in the stand since I have so much vertical room, might as well make use of it. Just have to cut 2 holes in the shelf now for drain & return.

I opted for Classic Oak Stain and High Clear Gloss Polyurethane.

Besides what has been mentioned, I'm just about ready! So be on the look out!!!

Pics will be up soon!

C'mon OPG, don't u no his boss is a slave driver! Who would have time for reefs let alone updates with a boss like that haha Jk, Jk

Any thoughts to an overflow cover? Or does the deep blues come with one? I got a stop at bed bath and beyond planned for this weekend to look for a little plastic container that would fit on top. I will have to cut a hole as one return goes over the side of the overflow, not the pre-fab hole.
