Quick question.
Has anybody have a star fish split in their tanks?

I had one of these little guy in my tank for about 6 months

one day out of the blue it just "DIED"
i took the body out and days went by.

one day doing regular maintenance/water change
i noticed there was a small stump. I thought i needed to take it out
since it looked dead. to my surprise that this thing was still alive.

I left it in the tank and it's been two weeks now and it's moving around the tank freely. kinda creepy but cool at the same time.

I will post pics soon. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone before?

In the ocean that is very common, in tanks not so much because they usually don't get enough food. If it is splitting because it is well cared for and healthy that is great, my concern is that infections and starvation can also cause a star to disintigrate and break up into pieces and that isn't a good or correctable situation. I can't tell if it is a healthy split or not, but just watch the cut and make sure they heal up and begin to get the same color as the rest of the star, not white or fuzzy or reddish colors, these usually mean infection and decomposition.

thanks for the input.
the split looks healthy (fully healed)
there are no weird spots or discoloration on it.
I've seen it change locations through the weeks.

I'll post pics soon I promise.

I've got these little guys (Asterinas) that seem to split often. About the size of a penny.
