Hows it going,

Just moved tank about 6 weeks ago and have a light layer of sand(possibly to be siphoned out) but only a crocea clam ( coral wise) and was pondering going BB before I stock the tank out the wazzoooo...

So where do all you BB folks get your starboard???? Best prices??? Who makes the Best materials or is there only one manufacturer???? How did you get yours cut???

As always...any help greatly appreciated!!

I have seen many tanks that are barebottom, but specificly what are the pros and cons. Why starboard? Obviously because I have 3 Seios, and when trying to find enough flow on the bottom for my lower light SPS, but without blowing the sand around, its definatly a balancing act.....and I know that sand beds hold in nutrients, but are these the only things?

They sell 4' by 6' sheet 1/2" thick of HDPE at Menard's for $12 if you have them in your area. Save you a fortune over the cutting board company. The stuff is easy to cut too. As most wood working saws do just fine. High speed tools tend to melt instead of cut but a jig saw and a table saw worked just fine for me.

I have 4 urchins and a 18" tall rock rack. I don't want a big LR falling and cracking the bottom. The HDPE was a must.

Silicone does not bond to starboard. You can try and silicone it just to keep the detritus out but if it ever warps, the starboard will come up. Make sure you have your rockwork or something else heavy to weigh it down while filling the tank.
