Starfish for small tank

Hey there, I have a 35g tank.. Just curious if there is a star fish that is ok for a tank that size?..
IF so, what are good ones to keep. My tank is about a year and a half old w/ a 2" DSB. any advice would be very helpful. Thanks

serpent stars stay rather small and would work out nice in a tank that size. they come inmany different colors and ar pretty easy to keep IMO

you could probably also keep a brittle star without any problems as well. i have kept a brittle star in a 24g AP for along time with no issues.

are those stars mentioned above hardy? I was also reading that they can get to a diameter of 1'. is that going to be too big for a small tank?
what do they eat?

Stay away from the green brittle stars as they do get big and can be quite predatory if hungry. Most of the serpent stars and I believe the black or red brittle stars should be ok. They are all detrivores/carnivores and will come running for chow. I used to feed mine everything from flake and shrimp pellets to frozen. Anything your carnivorous/planctivorous fish eat.

So obviously I want to aclimate them what should I look for when I am shopping for one. My problem is that I don't have a very good lfs within a hour drive from where I live and I'm not sure if I have to get it if I order?

Shy away from any star that has whitish patches (not including natural markings) or any spot that looks freyed. Any open sores or broken off and tattered limbs. These are probably all suffering from improper acclimation and are literally falling apart as they die.

stay away from GREEN. those are really predatory! i bought mine from reefs2go.com for like $7, nice little purple guy. they have a cool yellow one too.

Nothing to do with this thread.
BEASTIEPENDENT: ich bin ein dummkopf towards you in an earlier thread. Was having an early oktoberfest...stupid. If you want i'll entschuldigen in that thread. Sorry mate *slaps head*.

Also if it is not a reef a chocolate chip star is a nice hardy addition. They require feeding a few times per week.

Thank you for asking about stars BEFORE you get one.
Serpents should do fine in that size on their own but if it seems restless feed it. Brittle stars should be fed especially if you see waving arms a lot this means they are looking for food.
Sand Sifting Stars are monsters that eat tons of life in sand beds. Experts recommend 200g+ with sand substrate. These stars eat living things in the sand and cannot really be target fed.

Thank you guys for all the great advise. This was one of the things that turned me on the RC was how passionate everyone is about what they do.
So about feeding them. Does one just put something under there mouth. Which one is carnivorous and which one is an herbavoir?
