i've been reading some conflicting things about starfish.

the wife likes them. any that are reefsafe?

I would prefer smaller one's that won't throw the rocks around or pounch on fish.

I have a small red one that I got at CPE a year or so ago...it's about 1-2"...sorry that I don't know what it's called!

None of the sea stars are particularly easy. There are many brittle stars that are easy though. But they typically don't look as good and some almost resemble monsters. But back to sea stars. The linkias and fromias should be reef safe. They need a lot of live rock to graze on though. So probably at least a 75 gallon tank filled pretty good with live rock. And it needs to be well established. Probably close to a year old or older. Acclimate for at least 2-3 hours. Preferably more. Many due up to 6 hours.

There are quite a few colors of linkias and fromias. Fromias are smaller usually. But don't let that deceive you, they still need a lot of live rock. There are other sea stars with similar requirements that are reef safe. But these are the ones you typically see in the store.

Oh, sand sifting stars are reef safe too. But they eat everything out of your sand and are likely to starve in most tanks eventually.

i have sand sifter starfish 2 of them that do fine, black brittle, green serpent, use to have a blue linkia and a yellow linkia did great did not over rocks or corals. I think most of the good lookin stars like linkia's need alot of sponge growing in tank to feed off of though.

I have a blue linkia star that I have had for over 2 years,no problems yet.I was told to never take them out of the water or they will die like a sponge will.
