Starphire really all that???

Had an Oceanic Tech that was Starphire, didn't really see all that much difference. Looking for new tank now and not sure it's worth the added expenditure.

My current tank is not Starphire and I think it's perfect. Anyone have it and regret paying for it? Any not get it and regret it??

Opinions? Thoughts?

ive seen a couple... and unless there was a starphire and a regular glass tank sitting right next to eachother... i would never notice the difference...

IMO... Save your $$$

In my opinion if you are getting a larger tank 150 gallon or larger, and you have the means to get Starphire I would. I have several friends that have gotten clear glass and I have several that have not. Those that have not gotten clear glass now wish they had and this topic often comes up when we get together.

Once the glass gets thicker then a half inch you will notice it more is what I notice.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

i considered going starphire on my 120 but did not because of the extra money I have no regrets on the tank I bought, I think it looks beautiful and clear.

You probably wont notice the difference between your non-starfire and your friend starfire tank as you move between them. However, If you sat them next to each other you can tell pretty easily... or at least I can. I can also see a big difference between the starfire panels on my tank, and the standard glass on the bottom.

Does it matter? Not really, both are plenty transparent. Regardless, with how much I spend on this tank, the low-iron glass was hardly a budget windfall... and its not like I can "upgrade" my tank later. "To each their own."

my eyes are bad so i agree, but my wife noticed the difference immediatly

i will let you know soon :D

my choice for going with starphire as rather it will bug me always wondering what if, gl with ur decision :)

Marc while i was in florida i was in a shop that had a tank that was visible from both long sides. One side being starphire the other not. The difference was actually quite incredible! I have never priced a starphire tank and i doubt i would ever fork over the extra cash but its pretty impressive

I'm sure that you already know low iron glass scratches easier, Mark....

Was not aware. That little comment there, might just be the deal breaker. Personally, I didn't see a major difference. I also think the onus is on me to make my reef so incredible, no one gives a crap what the glass they're looking thru is like

The way I look at it Mark is your tank looks great and I think your new one will do the same with or w/o the extra cost of starphire!

My custom tank is starphire. Only a 60 gallon with 3/8in glass, but I could tell a difference. Also their are different grades of starphire and the lower you go the clearer you get. But it also makes the glass easier to scratch.

Starphire really all that???

Not in my opinion. Regular glass is fine. People spend how much to get blue light? a slight green tint isn't a big deal in my opinion.

My current Solana is Starphire and I'm not happy with it, scratches very easily. At the time I though I was getting a deal as the starphire was the same price as the regular glass. I scratched it like the 2nd day I had it..... researched it after the fact and found that the scratching is a common issue. I personally cannot tell the difference in clarity... when there is water in it, empty it looks way better. If I could go back in time, I'd get the regular glass!

I am in the middle of my 125 gallon build. Its going to become part of the house and I wanted Starphire so I wouldn't have any regrets later. I figure with the LED lighting I want all the colors to pop as much as possible. If I were building a normal setup, I would have went regular glass.

the only difference that you will notice is that low iron scratches easier. big --------- if you ask me. one of the shops had a few regular float glass tanks and one starphire and you had to really look to tell the difference. if this is going to be your last tank and you are super meticulous about not getting sand in your cleaning magnet then go for it, if not, you'll never know the the difference. What lighting are you going to use? The mh did look a bit better under the the low iron, but could have been the bulbs.

imho, go for the regular glass and buy more toys......
