Starry Blennie

I just lost my starry blennie today and I am wondering when people loose fish do you run certain tests or just assume he died naturally? I only had him about 6 months but I got him from someone who had already had him for a few years. So, did he just die because he was old? Or did I do something wrong and is there anyway to know if I did?

I did just add a RBTA on Saturday...it's a small one, only about 2in across and I have a 75 gallon tank. It wouldn't have just stung him and killed him would it have?

My only other thought is that my powerheads go on and off and when it was off my blenny would occasionally stuck his head inside to eat algae. Maybe it turned on when his head was in there? Except his body didn't look cut....hmm...

Saw his swimming around just last night. Eating and acting normally. He was my favorite fish.

Water parameters please? Any other fish in the tank?

Last check with my water change a week ago was:

1.025
0 for ammonia and nitrites
5 for nitrates

Is there ever a way to get nitrates to zero?

a clown pair, 1 blue green chromis, and 1 coral beauty.

Ok, just did a full water parameter check and here's what I got:

Temp 77.8
Salinity 1.025
PH 7.8
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 3
Phosphate .25
Alkalinity 10
Calcium 380
Magnesium 1380

Any thoughts? Just a natural death? All these parameters seems good to me as far as my fish would be concerned.

Sorry to hear about your starry. I've had mine for about 2.5 years and he is my favorite fish in the tank. Sounds like he just died naturally, tank parameters look ok and these guys are pretty solid. Some fish just up and die for no underlying reason. I've had a mystery wrasse and a solorensis wrasse that were fine one day and then dead the next (Separate instances, only had each one for about a year or so.)
