I just got a snowflake blenny in QT right now. I bought some nori to feed him but not sure if he is eating it. Anything else anyone reccomends I can feed him while he is in QT?

Also seems to hide alot in or around the PVC but I did see him perched up on the powerhead the other day

I have kept a starry blenny for years(it was one of the first fish i got) and its absolutely one of my favorites. I feed mine spirulina flakes and he loves them I also feed veggie flakes which is made up of different types of algae and he loves them as well. Be prepared to look hard to find this guy in the reef though as he will usually be perched on a rock somewhere. They have the ability to somewhat change colors to blend in with the rock which can make him very hard to find sometimes. the longer you have him you will notice these guys are full of personality (mine perches on a rock and moves his head around and watches me and everything else that is going on. They will dart into a hole in the rock when startled and wont come back out until they feel its safe. This has actually made it easier to catch him to transfer tanks, I just take out the rock with the blenny in it and put it in the new tank wait for him to come out and remove the rock, easy as pie..oh yeah did i mention i love these guys.

Thats why I get this guy. I heard they are awesome for personality...gotta admit they are kinda ugly lol

Actually mine let me pick him up with my hand after acclimating him to move him to the QT. I thought that was wierd

I love Blennies - I had a Algae blenny like a puppy, but lost him after a vacation. I got a Starry blenny & it's great - begs for food just like the other. It eats everything - you might want to try algea wafers that sink.

Good luck w/ it - at first I thought it was ugly too, but it's personality more than makes up for it, besides - it's a fish with EYEBROWS! How can you go wrong? LOL ...

My starry blenny would sit at the bottom of the tank and wait like a dog for food lol. I could even pet him and he would clean my hand. I called him Creeper cuz he was always watching us.

He did very well with flake foods, not so good with pellets though. I soaked the flakes in garlic just to help him find it a little better. I also soaked the nori I gave him, that was the only way he'd eat it. Maybe you should try that?

Ok so spirulina, flakes, and soak in garlic. I think he is eating the nori now. He is starting to show personality. I have found him perching on things. Its pretty cool lol

My starry blenny is one of my favorites too. They'll eventually eat anything. Any garlic-soaked food may speed up the process.

my starry blennie has bonded w/ a fox face rabbitfish. they hanf together like mated clowns. the fox face never raises his spines to the blenny as he does to others that invade his space.

My starry blenny eats anything....I have fed him mysis, brine and blood worms and he chases them all over the tank. Even after feeding time I can see him eating algae off the rocks/glass.

Mine eats anything. Even taught my Lawnmower that their is more to life then algae. It perches/lives underneath my Frogspawn. Almost looks like it is hosting him sometimes.

Odds are it'll eat whatever you put in the tank, if it sees other fish eating those items. Mine has even gone after supermarket shrimp before.

Hmm interesting. Well he seems to be getting use to the tank. If Im not right in front of it, he is starting to swim around. He is eating and no signs of illness yet.

My starry blenny and a scopas tang are best buddies and are rarely apart. Very comical to watch 2 completely different fish hanging together.

Well my fish list for my tank is still very undetermined. I have a rubdy head wrasse in there. My starry is next. I wasnt sure what to add next. I was considering a red scooter or blue assessor but im not sure. I only have a 40 breeder so tang is out of the question.

But it would be cool to see him bond with another fish.

2 weeks ago i was in a LFS and they had a few starry blennies, i had been looking for one for months. As i checked out each tank that had them, i found a pair that were colored differenlty, they were more pink then they were the typical starry dark colors...when i checked it in a book it looked exactly like a red spotted blenny, so i grabbed one. AWESOMe fish, behaves more like a dog than a fish, the pinkish coloring makes it nearly impossible to find on rocks with coraline, last night i was looking for him in my QT and i was looking right at it and didnt see it till it moved...
I found that they will eat EVERYTHING, again like a dog, and in between meals they snack on algae growing from the rocks...i've tried snapping pics but this fish is still getting used to me, so its been hard. Lately i've seen it comeing out more and more, and actually hangin out on the bare bottom out in the open, thats until it sees me, then it hides...

Yeah mine likes to hide if I get too close. If no one has seen it, the reason I decided to get one and I saw a video where a guy put his hand in the tank and cupped his hand and the starry swam right into his hand. Amazing....just completely amazing

One of my favorite fish too!
Another good food that you can try is Ocean Nutrition, Frozen, Formula Two. My loves it and will eat it off a fork! A teeny tiny fork...
:)

I'm currenlty restocking my 40 breeder, I was dead set to get another starry blenny but, I might get a black sailfin instead. I am also shooting for a fathead anthia, maybe that's something you could try? All sorts of fish can go in 40 breeders.

Well anthias from all Ive researched shouldnt be in anything less than a 75 for swimming room so I went against that. And do you mean a sailfin blenny?

I've read they need big tanks for groups but, from wetwebmedia, I've read that the fathead anthia is more like a hawkfish and would do fine alone in a 40 gallon.

Two different 'sailfin blennies'. The common one is the Atrosalarias fuscus, and the other (the one I'm getting) is the atlantic black sailfin blenny Emblemaria pandionis. My main concern with this blenny is it's ability to get along with a randall's shrimp goby. If it can't, I might try a different kind of swimming blenny in place of the goby.
