Start cycle with skimmate?

I filled up my 12g yesterday and aquascaped some base rock to my liking. I also added one ~2# piece of live rock to seed the rest of the rock.

I was thinking about what might speed the growth of bacteria on the new rocks, and I thought of adding more organic material to decay.

So, I emptied the skimmate (about 1/2cup ) from my other tank into the new one. I would think this should work similarly as adding a piece of shrimp with the added benefits of the material already being dissolved into water and already having the nitrobacters from my other tank.

Is this sound logic?

Yea It would have cycled anyway but nothing wrong with what you did. I would have added water from water change to the new tank. That will help also. I wouldn't add anymore skimmate.
