The sand isn't live. So no cycle there. The rock is cured. So no cycle there. The worste is just a little die-off from the rocks and it will give a few nitrates. Thats all. No biggie, plus I am doing more frequent water changes until I get all of my rock established.

Well, I am now having a diatom outbreak. I am actually not sure if it is diatoms or not. It is brown, and it stocks to the rocks and it on the sand. I dont think it is detritus because it doesnt blow off easily. Now... what inverts can I get to fight off this algea phase?

... Also, I am not wirred about ordering more LR for it. The dieoff may creat a little nitrate spike, ...
Die off will put ammonia not nitrate to your tank. This is what will kill your coral and fish. This is what we mean by cycle. The ammonia (from dead creatures in the live rock out of water for days) cycle to nitrite then to nitrate.
You need to get all the fish and corals out of your tank until Nitrite read down to 0. It is also ne a good idea to put in sensitive corals and fish until the tank is stable. I hope your fish and coral won't get sick and end up dead.
Even after the tank cycle, it is not a good idea to add too much fish at one time because the capacity of the tank (bacteria in the sand and rock) need to increase to handle the bioload for each fish in a nano tank like your's is limitted and need time to develope.
Sounds like you are a real beginner. It is much easier to set up a little larger tank. There isn't much room for error in a 24 g tank.

You need to understand that I am using overnight shipping on the rock since I am buying either a fish or coral from there at the same time. But if it makes you guys feel better, I will put the rock in my 55g first. Let it sit there and stablize. Then put it in my 24g. Plus, this isn't my first tank!!! I have my 6 month old 55g.

Hmmm, it is open top with the subpod, do you need another light for the cheato? Or does enough light spill into the back for it? Our AP24 is on the truck for delivery today.

Did your AP24 come with the glass top?

I'm looking to get one in the next few months, the systems I've looked at have the glass, and that's something I'd definitely have to have, otherwise, I'm likely to just be stocking a high-priced snack system for my cats. :)

The tank itself did not come with a glass top, but the Sunpod has a glass shield on it if that matters. But check out this beauty that I made today!

I made a perfect fit. It is white eggcrate and I painted it black with plastic textured paint. I think it looks really nice! Plus this way no fish can jump out of the tank and you still have the sirface open to keep the tank cooled down!

Yup, I dont plan on adding anything for awhile. Just some LR (which I will cure), and maybe a coral if I see something nice.

I like the egg crate, but my cats would pull that off the top of the tank in a heartbeat. They're very resourceful. Like, they've taught themselves how to open doors, and cabinets. :)

I'm wondering if it's just where you bought it - if they sell the AQ24 and the Sunpod seperately and kit them on their own - because if you buy it as an integrated kit that Current put together, it comes with a glass top, which I'm glad I went and checked out - it would've affected my purchase decision.

Per the Current website:

What's Included
Each AquaPod HQI includes tank, Sunpod lighting system, glass top, integrated filtration system, submersible pump, mechanical sponge filter, biomedia and instructions.

But I appreciate you posting your pics. Keep 'em coming!

Yeah, I wonder why mine didnt come with a glass top. But I couldn't have used it anyways because the 150w Sunpod will cook the tank like a turkey on Thanksgiving. My tank is 83 without a top at all! So if you are using the 150w Sunpod, I would not use a top. The tank will cook. Unless you have the cash for a chiller???

I'd probably have to do a chiller, the cash isn't an issue - I'm going to do this right. :)

I need enough light to do the corals, so whatever that takes is what it takes.

Yup, thats the way we should all think. lol. To do everything right the first time. So I would buy it with some type of nano chiller from nanotuners.com. Good luck!
