Awww.... shucks... btw just noticed from MY PICTURE... That SaltyCritter sent me ESV Kalkwasser mix, not Carbon. I'm making a trip up there tomorrow so I can make the switch... so no biggie.

Now that you've been running the MJ mod do you have anything to say about the negative comments on the thread you pointed out to me? Stuff like: are they noisy, do they start up in the right direction? It really seems like half the people who posted on that thread had some sort of problem with the MJ mods...

Well I just figured out I was running the smaller propeller.

Now the flow freaking RIPS!!!

Also, I was getting some vibration with the smaller propeller. It's gone now running the larger one though.

I didn't have any problem on start up. I'll be picking up another one tomorrow, and placing them on a wavemaker. So I'll be able to answer that question better tomorrow.

Cool! I've read so much about that wavemaker, I take it you already have it or are you going to pick one up tomorrow?

I went ahead and ordered an RK2 (I'm going to want it for the light timing, pH meter, and feeding and night time programs in the future anyways) so I'm going to use that for a wavemaker with two Koralia 3's I picked up. Yeah, I went ahead and went with the koralias because they are cheaper than buying an MJ mod new with pump and mount and I just hadn't heard enough about the MJ mods (Who knows, I might be kicking myself when tomorrow you say that the MJ mods are silent and work like a charm....)

As it is, the K3's might be too much flow for my 38 gallon (even though only one will be on at a time) but I plan on being able to use them when I truly upgrade.

I'm picking it up tomorrow, and am pretty excited to get it hooked up and see how it works.

I'm so impressed with the flow coming off the 2100gph impeller. I can see the top of the substrate moving all the way in the back corner on the other side of the tank. :eek2:

I'm really hoping this will help aid my cyano removal effort.

I've heard good things about the Reefkeeper 2. will16 is currently using it on his 90g tank for controlling a lot of stuff. I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Vinegar baths for the Koralia's

First one done... you can see how clean it is now versus one of the other ones that hasn't been cleaned yet in the background.

looks great, i should have gone with the mj1200 kit, but i got a k nano, K1, K4 and a penguin 400 hob filter for less then the price of the K4.

thats some crazy flow tho, thats forsure.

Here's what I'm doing powerhead wise with the tank now.

Another MJ mod will go in the same basic vicinity as the Koralia near the top of the tank, and they will alternate on a timer. Then the Koralia currently at the top of the tank will be placed in the other back corner to keep deritus from settling in the corners. I'll be interested to see what happens with the sandbed, but so far the pump being that close to the sandbed has not caused any issues.

I just have to figure out a way to control/hide the cord better.

that's still laminar flow isn't it--the head on the mod kit looks like it might be giving turbulant flow.

my supplier told me that moded maxijets could not be run on variable timers so this will be interesting to watch.

No it's turbulent flow. Very wide distribution also.

Now that I switched out the propellers, I'm very impressed with the flow it provides.

The only thing I'm not crazy about, is that the holder is weak. Not the magnet, but the support that connects the powerhead to the magnet which you can angle to point the powerhead different directions.

From all the flow the powerhead is creating, it pushes back pretty hard, and always ends up on a downward angle, since there is no lower support to hold it in place.

About you issue of it being weak the ones i bought were from reef systems in new albany and they have like a nut and bolt effect little easier to control. Also it comes with the same as the eco mod kit plus a magnet all for around 40 dollars i was pleased with it other than the large propler was broke however he replaced it no questions asked.

i have not personally used the korllia line but my friend has a set of 3 i think and i don't really care for the flow. my mod kits i would defeitatly(sp) purchase agian.

You can rotate the mount so it's on the bottom instead of the top, that way it'll want to push up instead of down toward your sandbed. Also, you can cut a piece of PVC pipe, (painted black of course) and glue it behind the powerhead, that also will stop it from moving. Either way, easy fix!! Once you get them on a wavemaker/timer, the turning off/on will cause them to wander down a little more. Also, you'll notice once coraline algae starts to grow on them, they tend to tighten up.

I switched from K4's to these MJ mods, and never went back. the flow on the K4's seemed like more of a V, these are nice and wide it really is hard to believe the K4's were 1200 gph. and the MJ's are 1600 (with the black prop) 400 gph felt more like 1200, I think someone is pulling someones leg!! ;)

okay so you are getting 1600 gph from a maxi1200
that is 40 bucks for pump
30 bucks for mod kit
and 30 bucks for magnet==100 dollars

why not go to 3200 gph for 180 bucks with the new Koralia8?
