Starting a 180, initial progress

THE PUMP IS HERE!!!!

I can't belive it. I talked to my wife twice before I got home and she never mentioned that the pump arrived today. She knew I was waiting. Ahhhh!!!

Weekend Update

Thought I was past due for some pictures!!!

Fist up is a picture of the tank when I started to add water. This picture also shows the the tall panels removed.

Two days and a couple minor leaks later, the tank is nearly full. Notice the shop vac. :) I intentionally made this setup so it was easy to use a shop vac to catch all the water that exist the drain plug when servicing the pump. Turns out I got to practice this method 3-4 times.

Built a little stand to hold the Marlin pump and some of the initial plumbing. This thing is a beast!!!

Picture of the manifold off the pump return to provide flow for a carbon reactor and a phosban reactor.

Put in some LR and moved some aged water from "the tub" to the display to kick start the cycle. Notice the handle on the tall panel??

Took over 2 hours to clean the skimmer. There was coraline algae all over both the inside and outside. Got it plumbed in to the second drain line.

Still need to finish the return plumbing before I can fire up the Marlin and tune things in.

So your running everything off the return pump? Nice, don't think I get enough pressure for that.

Are you not going to simply use all the water from your 300g tub or is the 'cycle' to get the sand in shape?

I will use a lot if not most of the water from the 300, but I wanted to start to cycle the display water so I can tie it into the sump/fuge with minimal issues.

Nice lights :D

I can't believe you used your wife's good white towel.

Great pictures. I can't wait to see it a year from now.

Nice lights :D
Thought you might like them, cause they are very nice!! :D

I can't believe you used your wife's good white towel.
Actually my wife was good enough to buy me my own set of "fish" towels. I admit it was probably because I kept using her kitchen towels. ;)

Got the return plumbing completed tonight. Took three tries before the water level in the sump was high enough that the pump did not suck air. Once the pump was running I was amazed at the amount of water moving from the sump to the display. I was getting terrible bubbles from both drains. I ended up dialing back the pump and got the perfect flow. Nice amount draining from the display and minimal bubbles in the sump. I then tweaked the water going into the skimmer and did a power off test to verify that I would not drain too much water. All was well.

The loudest part of the display is one of the fans in the light fixture. There is a slight water movement sound but it's blocked out by the noisy fan.

Looks like I will be moving out of the tub and into the display this weekend time permitting.

Very nice setup!

I didn't think the pump would be that big:eek1: The towel holder is a nice touch.

Please share some pics after the critters are in their new home.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Move in day was a success today. Got all the corals, fish, etc from the Tub into the display. So far I haven't seen one of the Anthias but I am guessing it's still hiding. I'll need to get a new clean-up crew as I found 1 large gorilla crab that had a field day on the astrea snails that were in the tub.

The pictures were taken shortly after move-in so things are still a little cloudy and all the fish are hiding.

I've completed some of the electrical work but still have some cleanup to do. Last thing is to finish the panels for the front of the stand, then this project is DONE!

Thanks for the feedback!

Good news, the fish that I thought was missing was just being a little more shy than the others. It was out swimming around about 4 hours after I stopped messing with the tank.

finally out of the tub! Everybody must be relieved to be in their new home. Congrats!
It's kinda funny, the fish were very skiddish the first day and some of the second. I wonder if it's because they spent 10 months in a container with no "people' looking at them from the sides, just fromt the top down. Seemed like last night they were acting a little more normal.

On another positive note, 2 of the 3 anemonies have not moved from their spot and the 3rd only moved a couple inches, likely to a place with a better foot hold.
