Starting a 180, initial progress

Replaced the 2 outlet box under the stand with a 4 outlet box so I no longer need to run the Dart Pump off of the DC-8.

After many trips to various Radio Shack's a couple auto parts stores and one appliance store it appears that the fuse used inside the DC-8 is an unusual size so I am left with no choice but to order one from Neptune Systems. I don't mind the ordering, but to pay so much in shipping for such a small item bothers me. I'm going to order a couple so I have a spare if this happens again.

I also reworked the single jack stand under the tank so that there are now two jack stands and an almost 6 foot 4x4. While I was not worried about the stand/tank I did observe that when the kids were running and jumping in the room, the tank was rocking and rolling. After the change, I can jump around in the room and the tank has minimal movement. I figured this was necessary as all those giddy URS members would be excited and jumping around when they see my tank :D

Got a pair of replacement fuse for the DC-8 today from Neptune. I installed one and the DC-8 is back in business. I put the other in a protective package and taped it to the DC-8 so I know where to find it if/when this happens again.

The "walking" anemone wandered for a couple days and has not appeared to settle into a new spot. The funny thing is the new spot is about 4" to the left of where it started, but it took the long road around the tank to get there.

After letting it burn in for a couple days I decided I really like the color of the Hamilton 14K so I ordered 2 more to replace the 10K XM bulbs. I did feel that the color was a little too blue so I will also be replacing one of the Actinic VHO bulbs with an Actinic white 50/50 bulb. This should give me the exact same coloring I had on my 120, which I thought was perfect. Should have the new lighting installed and burned in before the reef crawl this Saturday.

Speaking of the reef crawl, am I the only one with a long list of clean up tasks to do before I have people over to look at my tank, and to a lesser extent the house?? Seems like the tank and the house are a little too messy for my liking.

I hope people are not expecting clean areas in our houses. The basement and cellar are a mess at mine and would take an entire free weekend to really clean.

Surprised to hear the DC8's fuse is that unusual, have not looked at it but would have assumed a 'standard' of some sort.

Kurt - You may want to hang on to the message below that I got from Neptune Systems.

The fuse is a 5x20 mm, 15 Amp fuse, at least 120V AC. Check a grainger's outlet as they usually stock them or you can get them directly from us.

You aren't the only one... I've been trying to get everything presentable in the fish room and the rest of the house as well.

Got the new bulbs installed last night and I am very pleased with the results. My corals and fish are back to the colors I remember from my old setup. The 10K XM bulbs, even with dual 140w Actinic VHO just didn't have any pop. Now that I changed to the Hamilton 14K and 1 50/50 and 1 Actinic VHO and the colors are much improved. I was gauging the color by my Niger trigger. When the colors are balanced correctly it's a nice bright blue. Too much yellow and the fish looks more black.

I decided not to post pictures until after the crawl, so those on the crawl will get to see it first.

Last night my wife found out that some of you guys will be stopping by tomorrow...previously she only knew I would not be home for a few hours Saturday....so now I have to do some cleaning.

Thanks a lot guys

I'm not cleaning house;just step over anything on the floor and not on it . You never know what could be living under there.

For those of you that made it to the Reef Crawl, you got to see my mostly empty family room. Other than our old kitchen table and chairs the room was bare due to a delay in delivery. After some additional delays on Monday, most of the furniture was delivered. It was funny because the delivery guys took a break and were asking me about the tank.

I have already spend numerous hours on this couch staring at the tank.

Still need to hang a couple pictures and put some "stuff" on the mantle, but the tank is in and that was the most important part for me. :D

Looks just like our couch...almost, Raymour Flannigan?

Good to see some comfortable 'viewing' chairs in that room, they should get well used.

While looking at your tank during the crawl I did notice your couch and thought it was very similar. We found the same set at Raymour & Flannigan and Rosa's. Got a better deal at Rosa's because we also ordered the tables there.

I don't seem to remeber any loc-line at that end of the tank. Still experimenting with the flow?

J

Good observation!! I'm always tinkering.

While on the crawl I was talking to Chris N and he mentioned that I could possibly get better flow on the far end by reducing the size of the hole for the output. I had some loc-line so I replaced the 1.5" 90 with a 1.5 -> 3/4" bushing and put in some loc-line. Flow seems to be a little better.

Thanks Magdelan!

Looks like there is trouble in paradise. The BTA’s continue to move around to the point that I had to move several corals yesterday. I think this is in part to the lighting change. They stay in the same general area, but are moving about.

Yesterday I noticed that the Carberryi Anthias (looks female) has a chunk missing from it’s tail. Not sure if it was the other dominant Bartlett Anthias (looks to be turning male), the niger trigger or big momma GSM Clown. Other than the missing part of the tail, it appeared to be fine.

Then I noticed something really BAD. One of the Bartlett Anthias (looks female) had little white spots all over it. Yep, lots of ICH. I am guessing it’s from the stress of the dominant Bartlett Anthias pushing it around. So I’ve gone to multiple smaller feedings per day and am doing my best to stay out of the tank to keep the stress away. I am prepared to yank out fish and QT if needed, but as of Sunday night there was only 1 fish with any spots.

hey, that's not how it looked on the grid paper......
LOL, that's cause the recliner is on back order and will not be delivered until right around Christmas. This is the temporary setup until that piece arrives.
