Starting a 220 Peninsula - Tank Turnover Rate

I am in the planning stages of a 220 Peninsula. Before I get into the type of overflow, drilling, plumbing and all those goodies, I have a general question which will dictate a lot:

What should my overall turnover rate be for a 220 mixed reef, mostly softies and tangs? How about the flow through the tank versus the sump flow rate?

There is so much mixed information out there about this, I thought regulars of this forum would be best to ask.

Thanks for the help. I am going to need it.

I like 30x turnover but I like to keep sps. Your tangs will appreciate higher turnover.
The sump is much lower because it needs contact time with your skimmer, etc...

hi, in my 180 i got powerheads moving 21,400 ltrs an hour, so without counting the returns thats 32x water movement. i only got 3x through my sump to let my skimmer do the business !

Understood, thanks. So I will shoot for about 3x turnover through the sump (or 660gph) and display tank will depend upon what's in the tank, but at least 10x. Thanks again.

Now I need to research the pump I will need since I am plumbing in the basement, so about 10-12' head pressure.

Peninsula refers to the type of tank, meaning this tank will be used a room partition, viewable from three sides.
