You know that is the reason why I use seachem matrix. I don't need to replace it. Only, the sulfur needs to be replaced when they run out of steam; which is the reason why sulfur is on the top -- it makes easy to replace it. By the way, I learned this method from new jersey reef club. Calcium media is also okay to use. It will house the bacteria and at the some time dose CA in your tank.

what type of media for sulphur are you using i was using the sea chem the Live sulphur media and on my rector im not using any CAl reactor media , and with that being said my media was turning to mush. you have any reason on why that woudl happen.

I opened my reactor just a few days ago to fix a problem -- the sulfur media where getting compacted inside the chamber. But the media were still intact, not disintegrating lik yours that turned into mush.

I have a friend who has a sulfur reactor too and he is not using any other media same setup as yours -- only sulfur in the chamber and his does fine too. He got his from medwest aquatics. he speed roughly $250 to fill up his reactor.

I am using the garden type sulfur media and I spend only $25 for the sulfur. Here is the link for my sulfur media.

Where did you get your tank?
You could put a piece of black sticker vinyl on the back. You can get it at a place that makes graphic signs or window tinting places.

Tank was build locally. The builder suggested to laminate a black acrylic at the back before the tank was build. But I decline so I can save money. Now I'm regreting that. I'm thinking of ordering black vinyle or acrylic at usplastic and just have time cut in to 3 to 4 piece so it can be ship standard. We'll see.

Wow, your purple monster is a fast grower! Many would be jealous Who built your tank? Was it Gen?

have you seen any agression between your dussimer and orange shoulder tang ? (since both are acanthurus)

Not that much. I see just a little agression on the palani but nothing to worry. My palani is about 12" long so he just want to let every body know that he is the king. Once in while when the orange bammed with the palani he'll chase the orange shoulder just briefly.

So he isn't even an adult yet, ouch . That is what worries me about adding one to our tank. Alot of fish will get along until they mature, then some can get quite territorial. Our orange shoulder is around 12" now.. so he is close to his max adult size, which means it is likely already well "established" in our tank which just means adding another acanthuride that much harder and riskier . More research is in order !!!

But I think that we may end up passing on adding one. I would hate to have fish of the size they will both end up being chasing each other through a mature SPS tank .
