Starting a new 90 Progress will be updated

Right now I am using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3. Not fancy but works pretty good.

I just ordered a Nikon D80 with a 105 mm Macro lens and tripod so I will have some better shots soon.

Day 119

Just got the new Nikon D80 digital SLR with a 105mm Macro lens so I thought I would post some of my first pics. I'm still practicing with different methods to get better pictures.

I love my D80. I have a lens in the shop right now, but Nikon was very responsive about my issue. I don't have a macro lens yet (maybe next year some time since I just got the new tank in August). I have heard great things about that lens. The SB-600 flash is a great addition BTW (or the 800 if you want more power).

I tweaked several settings on the D80 based on other's experiences. I highly recommend going to www.nikonians.org and joining the D80 forum there (I find the free one fine). They have loads of information and are really great people.

Your photos look great!

Thanks looks like a great forum. I think the SB-600 would be fine.

I got some tweaks off the site but I just started looking so I have a lot more to read. As if this hobby didn't take enough time. :)

I worked a lot in photography 25 to 30 years ago so I'm a little rusty and the digitals are a whole new beast.

Day 141

It's been a while since my last post but with the holidays and work nothing changed over the last 22 days.

I purchased 5 pieces of coral this week and below are pictures.

Thanks

I am currently using a Nikon D80 with a 105 mm f/2.8 macro lens. I chose the D80 because I had several Nikon AF lenses and the D40 does not have the capability of using the AF features.

The majority of the pics are shot at 1/60 s - F/2.8.

The most trusted and best priced online dealer is B&H.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

Go to the photography section forum and you'll see most will agree.

I compared against Costco and they are actually less expensive.

Adorama is another well trusted one. I got mine from Beach Camera, and have no complaints. Ritz camera and Amazon are other places you might check out.

I have also bought cameras from Beach and would include them as a good and honest dealer. They did not have everything I wanted when I bought the D80. B&H had a better selection at the time and the price was the same.

I found that Ritz, Adorama and Amazon tend to be higher than Beach or B&H.

Any prices lower than Beach or B&H are most likely scams as there are a lot out there when in comes to cameras.

Below is an article that points out a common scam.

I am in the pro video sales business. BH is the only online company I truest, but I hate it when I have to match their pricing LOL.

Yeah, just remember to calculate shipping, sometimes the other places are a few dollars less when this is taken into account.

Definately look out for scams.

On a side note, I just purchased the 50mm 1.8 from Adorama :D

BTW, if you are ever in NY City, you have to go into B&H, their store is HUGE.
