starting a new tank :)

powder blue tangs are one of my favourite fish. i'm sad to say that i've been through quite a few to be honest. getting them to eat is the hardest part. i was getting them from a...ughh..lesser quality store, and they would die in a week or two. i bit the bullet and bought one for almost triple the price from a store that showed me that it was eating and had the fish for over two months. that fish has lasted for about a year and is in perfect health.

edit: to get them to eat i take a few drops of tank water, a few drops of vitachem, two drops of garlic extract and a few pinches of pellets. i let the pellets soak into the mixture then feed. it's worked very well for me.

Tank is looking good Jay. I priced that exact size tank from miracles but they wanted more for it than the one I have lol. As for the powder blue, I got mine on a weekend sale for 30$ 2 years ago. Showed a little ich but it went away. I have always kept my stock low as in 5 fish in my 120 and never had a problem with it eating. Pellets, flakes, home made slurry. But it doesn't eat nori? I recently added a sailfin and it's a nori destroyer lol. Minimal squabbling when I added it. Had my fingers crossed

Maybe I will try a powder blue when I upgrade next month. You guys aren't running UV sterilizers, right? Someone told me I have to run one if I plan on keeping a powder blue.

^me too, i have a UV, i don't use it.

little update, just letting it grow out while keeping params as stable as possible. lots of encrusting going on with the acros but not really growing out as much as the digis.

it's been a while since an update, but this is how the tank sits now. I've changed to T5 lighting with all ATI bulbs. I'm actually building a custom tank right now that just finished being built, just waiting delivery so this current tank I'm just letting everything grow out until I make the slow transfer.

How's the change to t5? How deep is this tank? 8 bulbs? My tank is 26 deep with most stuff middle range in depth.

weird things happened when I changed to the T5's. I switched from two AI hydras to a ATI 8 bulb powermodule with 6 blue +, 1 Fiji purple and 1 coral +.

I had three red planet frags that had no color, and no polyp extension. all three colored up and started barfing polyps. I as also careful not to change anything else at all to the system, just the lights.

growth also exploded. I've gotten more growth in a month than I did in 6 months, especially on the pink lemonade. not knocking LED's, just what worked for me. oh and the tank is 18" deep.

edit: thanks reefmutt!

Beautiful looking SPS reef mate, the individual pieces have wonderful colors but the placement for contrast is gorgeous.
