starting a seahorse tank?

well tested today and all seems to be good and cycled :). the little snail was roaming around and the two hermit crabs were on the rocks. and i saw the other 3 snails in the sand. tank just looks very empty cant wait to get something swimming around

would a good diet for the firefish be a feeding of frozen mysis alternating with like a flake food? and since the seahorses will be fed 3 times a day the firefish would -naturally- also eat 3 times a day right?

not sure why you got the scarlet reef hermits against the majority of the people who were helping the whole way saying you shouldn't. Ann has been helping you the whole way out and you took most of her advice, should've taken this one too. Part of experience is learning how to show restraint, perhaps why they say seahores are for experienced only...

are you trying to say i'm not going to be experienced enough to house seahorses because i dont have self restraint to not buy scarlet reef hermit crabs? if so then wow i'm surprised.

Also i was not ignoring what ann said, but what not provided information in which he defended the use of scarlet reef hermit crabs, how am i suppose to become an "experienced" keeper if i take the first answer given to me when the next response is in the contrary to the first remark. I looked around and got some more information on the hermit crabs and after getting them, there is noway i could see even a young seahorse getting hurt by one of these, these guys are small.

im pretty sure the end of this weekend im going to be getting the firefish. I'm hoping to get a purple firefish but i'm not sure if my LFS will have a purple or a helfrichi. would feeding him a mix of pellet and frozen mysis work out wel?

Going to call tomorrow to see if my LFS has a purple firefish and what kind of jawfish they have, i think i'll get a jawfish and a firefish when i go up there.

i just ordered a maco algae pack from marineflora so hopefully friday i'll have some pictures of the tank with it and it should look much nicer.

just got a purple firefish and a red scooter blenny :). after i acclimate them and they'r settled in the display i'll get some pictures. Also the guy said that this is his best batch of blennies hes had in a while and they will eat frozen so i shouldn't have to worry (and i watched as he then fed the fish).

alright went down this morning and took 100 pictures and here are the best most worthy ones. Man the firefish did not want to come out from the rock work (guess thats a compliment on the aquacaping). The blenny is so awesome.

And then i decided to ask, whats this white stringy stuff (almost milky white) growing off my macro algae in my display?

Nice Pictures. Scooter Blennies are my favorite marine fish hands down. So much personality. I just lost my red one that ate frozen food about a month back. I just go a new one about a week ago and it eats frozen, too. My macro (gracilaria) also has those white strings. Not sure what they are though.

ya the scooter blenny is so awesome. he keeps staring me down everytime i look at him. hes pecking away at the rocks and everything but sometimes when he eats something he discharges a lot well junk out of his gills, i'm assuming this is his way to filter out whats food and whats not?

okay so i'm going to be getting the macros next week i think ( i dont think they got a chance to send them out yesterday for wednesday shipping). Should i glue them onto rock and not burry them in sand or what?

Nice fish.

Just put the macro in the rock work, uless it is sand dwelling then put it in the sand. The algae pack is probably pretty small clipping so i would just wedge them between some rocks. They will grow in no time. never had any luck personally gluing macro down.

got a couple more pictures. Today my friend gave me a group of barnacles (i guess thats what you'd call it?) that she had gotten from a dive in California a long time back that she use to have in her tank and took out of storage for me. I soaked it for a few hours and put it in the tank :). So far two snails have climbed it and the firefish has checked it out.
